From the VMware WS Store it appears that WS 10 has been released.
1) The price is more than twice that of WS 9. $349 new and $249 upgrade. This effectively prices out individuals and companies seeking this technology
2) While there are certainly a few improvements in the technology it might be interesting if somebody could take a poll question as to whether.
a) The product is ready for GA.
b) Whether the unprecedented price increases are worth it and if so how VMware is going to approach support of this product and at what price point.
3) In the past people contributing on these beta forums have been afforded reduces prices on the products. Given that many people have given VMware some valuable feedback that VMware has worked on - no doubt on their own time it would seem that this tradition (which my memory goes back to 1999) would be continued and perhaps the discount should be increased
Of course I can't have any knowledge about what goes on inside the company as concerns for example between marketing and engineering but it has to be somewhat unpleasant. $349 is twice the price of one platform it can be installed on.
This product (as far as I can see with the July TP) is not ready for prime time.
Message was edited by: Martin Felker Wait there's more. The price point I posted above has changed in the last few minutes - interesting. It is now $249 new and $119 upgrade. However the upgrade from a free product VMware Player is also $199 dollars. Besides changing the price of a free (and limited) product not fully tested from $0 to $199 it means all of who have been paying for new or upgraded products would have been better off (certainly financially) if they had never bought (not to mention beta tested at all). Some of the featuraes touted (ambient light sensor!!??) have not been mentioned on the forum as far as I remember - let alone tested. BATW a neat trick for software alone to have such capabilities - kudos to VMware
