About MTU of NSX edge

$

Hello.

NSX Edge Interface has MTU setting place.

Is this correct in terms of the maximum MTU size when sending packets from NSX Edge?

If correct,

Is it correct in understanding below?

① Set the MTU size of the NSX Edge to 1500.

② MTU 9000 packet arrives at NSX Edge from guest OS

③ Communication routed by NSX Edge is fragmented and communicated to MTU 1500

Manually modifying appstack

$

The Appstack capture process seems too simplified in that you hit start, make a change, hit finish, and it bundles everything up into a vmdk. I am use to tweaking packages and permissions as well as trimming the erroneous data that was captured and not needed. Is there a way to open an appstack and see the data it captured? For example mount the vmdk and see the registry keys, files/folders, etc. and then remove data that shouldn't have been captures as well as adjust ACLs etc?

I ask because our helpdesk is receiving reports of odd behavior with an application and I'm wondering if there is conflicting registry keys in an appstack being overlayed. Being able to see what's in the appstack would prove this is happening and being able to then delete the conflicting keys from the appstack would resolve the problem.

Solaris 10 to ESXi 6.0 Impossible?

I've done some digging on this and found some old info which may have been for VMware WS 4.0. Having trouble booting in ESXi6. Here's what I done so far:

The source Solaris disk layout (2 disks sda & sdb in software raid)

root@PartedMagic:/# fdisk -l

Disk /dev/sda: 750.2 GB, 750156374016 bytes

255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 91201 cylinders, total 1465149168 sectors

Units = sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes

Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes

I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes

Disk identifier: 0x00000000

   Device Boot      Start         End      Blocks   Id  System

/dev/sda1   *       32130  1465127999   732547935   bf  Solaris

Disk /dev/sdb: 750.2 GB, 750156374016 bytes

Units = sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes

Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes

/dev/sdb1   *       32130  1465127999   732547935   bf  Solaris

1. Booted Solaris server with Partedmagic and performed a dd of the /dev/sda disk (750GB) to a remote CentOS server

     dd if=/dev/sda/ conv=sync,noerror bs=128k | gzip -c ssh 192.168.3.88 dd of=/home/jargo/hservers.gz

2. Unzipped the file

     pv hserver2.gz | gzip -d > hserver2

3. Converted from raw format to vmdk format

     qemu-img convert -f raw -O vmdk hserver2 hserver2-flat.vmdk -p

     [root@JArgo-CentOS jargo]# file hserver2-flat.vmdk

     hserver2-flat.vmdk: VMware4 disk image    (I'm concerned this Vmware4 disk image may only be for a VMware Workstation where I need ESXi6 format)

4. qemu-img info hserver2-flat.vmdk

[root@JArgo-CentOS jargo]# qemu-img info hserver2-flat.vmdk

image: hserver2-flat.vmdk

file format: vmdk

virtual size: 699G (750156382208 bytes)

disk size: 620G

5. Moved flat file to VM datastore, re-checked file size:

#ls -la hserver2-flat.vmdk

-rw-r--r--1 root root 691013419008 Nov 10 01:05 hserver2-flat.vmdk

6. Created 'missing' vmdk descriptor file using 691013419008 / 512 to give me my RW of 1349635584 and tried geometry from vmware's vmkfstools of the flat file:

[root@MNIS-ESXi-02:/vmfs/volumes/5a01d41c-dbdbd1c1-28b1-3863bb45a2e0/hserver2] vmkfstools -g hserver2-flat.vmdk

Geometry information C/H/S is 1453521/16/63

     ddb.adapterType = "lsilogic"

     ddb.geometry.cylinders = "1453521"

     ddb.geometry.heads = "16"

     ddb.geometry.sectors = "63"

Also tried using the geometry that VMware originally gave me for the disk:

     ddb.adapterType = "lsilogic"

     ddb.geometry.cylinders = "84010"

     ddb.geometry.heads = "255"

     ddb.geometry.sectors = "63"

Cannot get this VM to boot Solaris for the life of me. Anyone that can help me please? I would be most appreciative.

I'm trying set a vsan node into Maintenance mode, I want to script a rolling reboot of all nodes in a cluster. Of course I need to build some logic to insure before rebooting subsequent nodes that the vsan is healthy but just trying to figure out the required code to actually put it into maintenance mode with the evacuate VM's and insure "ensure accessibility" option ?

Renewing SSL cert for vCenter5.5

Hello Cool People,

I was planning to renew the certificates for our vCenter server and its components using the SSL Certificate automation tool.  I was just curious since when we did this 3 years ago, the files that was generated by the tool was still in the "Request" folder of  ssl automation tool directory including the .pem file. I attached a screenshot below. My question and concern is that, Can this folder or files be removed from the "Request" folder? Since I need to generate a new certificate request(VMware Knowledge Base ) are the files inside these directory gets overwritten with a new files? I hope someone can shed some light and share their expertise on this matter.

VM Monitoring of vSphere HA

Hi,

Is the vm monitoring function of vSphere HA effective even if there is only one host in the cluster?

I want to utilize only the function of restarting the vm in the same host if it hangs.

Requirements:

Migrate all vm's from Cluster 1 to Cluster2 in vcenter 5.5.

Cluster1

There are 8 network adapter's of 1Gbps on all host from Cluster1

2 - are using for vmotion

2 - are using for vmanagment

4 - are using for VMNetwork

All hosts are connected with DV-switch1

Cluster2

There are 2 network adapter's of 10 Gbps on all host from Cluster2

Vmotion, vmanagment and VMNetwork all are running on these two 10 Gbps

All hosts connected to this Cluster2 on DV-switch2

LACP is enabled on DV-switch2 at vcenter level and physical switch end.

Vlans are same for VMNetwork configured on both DV-switch.

Please suggest best solutions to hot  migrations from Cluster1 to Cluster2?

Global Entitlement order?

$

We are rebuilding our VD environment at an alternate data center and have started utilizing Global Entitlements instead of entitling at the desktop pool level. Our goal is that we will eventually be running out of two data centers in an active-active design.

So it looks like View separates these when someone logs into the environment. I see our desktops entitled at the desktop pool level first, in alphabetical order. I then see the globally entitled pools - and they are in some randomized order that makes no sense.

Has anyone else experienced this? It makes things look sloppy on our end to the end user.

Windows 10 Edge Enterprise Mode Site List

I am looking to use Enterprise Mode Site List via AD GPO in a linked clone environment running Windows 10.  The goal:  when a user opens Edge and attempts to navigate to a site, Windows automatically opens that site in IE 11 and close Edge.

When the user logs in, they are required to open Edge once to get the policy downloaded.  Once downloaded, the next time a user opens Edge with the URL in question, IE 11 opens the URL and closes Edge as expected, but this is required to occur once during every time the user logs into a new desktop, they must repeat these steps.  What they'd like to is have UEM persist the fact that Edge has received the policy and simply open the link in IE 11.  We are using UEM 9.2.1, with the Edge.ini file provided on the VMTN site. We are looking for assistance on how to persist the site list downloaded by the policy.  Any insights?

vcsa-deploy.exe: Got error while running OVF Tool command: Deployment failed. Ovftool return error code: -1073741800

Hi,

Once upon a time I deployed our entire v6 PSC/VCSA environment using vcsa-deploy.exe and json config files. Wonderful.

I'm now trying to deploy using an updated version of vCenter - v6.0 Update 3b (VMware-VCSA-all-6.0.0-5326177.iso). I'm using the updated json template. I'm on Windows 10 x64 and undoubtedly a newer build than when I first used the cli installer (not sure if this makes a difference).

The error I'm getting is when deploying is:

Cannot gather support logs because the appliance could not deploy.
Got error while running OVF Tool command: Deployment failed. Ovftool return error code: -1073741800

Basic verification completed successfully, so no problems reported there.

The line "See c:\users\robin\appdata\local\temp\vcsaCliInstaller-2017-11-10-12-45-oj7vbi\ovftool.log for the OVF Tool logs." is not possible, because the log doesn't exist.

Running the installer in a web browser isn't an option because I'm using Firefox and Chrome x64; Firefox tells me I need to run the installer on Windows. Chrome prompts me to install the client integration plugin (already done), then to open it, but doesn't do anything, although it did once throw the following error: "vmware-csd.exe - Application Error: The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000018). Click OK to close the application." - Anyway I don't want to do this as it negates the benefits of using the command line.

Any ideas?

Thanks.
