Question about vsphere assigning virtual machines to users

Can vsphere allocate multiple virtual machines to the same user in the same desktop pool?
The business needs to allocate all the virtual machines in the entire desktop pool to the same user, but I find that when the same user is repeatedly assigned, an error will be reported.
How can I achieve this requirement?

VMDK backup errors with ESXi 5.5 VM

Hello all,

Recently I worked with our backup vendor troubleshooting backup failures for a VM that is running on an ESXi 5.5 host.  (This is on an older server, Dell PowerEdge R510.)   They informed me that the failures where due to an I/O error and that there is a bad disk, and they pulled this from the VMWare API log:

This host is using a local hardware RAID-5 volume, off of a PERC H700 integrated controller.   My question is, how can we identify which disk in the volume is the culprit -- Do I need to get with Dell support on it?   On the server itself, no drives are being flagged as bad, and the VM with the backup errors is actually running fine.   In the vSphere Client, under Events for both the host and the VM, no errors are shown.

I tried running vmkfstools --fix check for the VMDK that our backup app fails on, and the result is that no errors were found.

Thank you for any guidance

Sharing a datastore as a NFS volume

Imagine an ESXi host with local disks used as VMFS datastores.

Is there any way to allow other ESXi hosts access the local VMFS datastores as NFS shares?

A consultant says it should be possible, but I was unable to locate the related documentation.

Can anybody please help?

VSphere HA Geo-Reduntant

Hi,

I've been tasked with getting a new environment that will have our main production site and a DR site that will take over all VMs if we have our main site go down. We are getting the vsphere enterprise license so I believe we have all that we need. Along with a vmax EMC to handle the SAN at both sites. I just want to make sure there is no other licensing or additions I'm going to need  To get this working. It appears I will be using vsphere metro service for the SAN and HA across the spanned cluster. Sound right?

VDP 6.1 Limitation

We have about total of 50 to 80 VM of RHEL 7 that needs to have scheduled image backup with VDP 6.1

I read that VDP 6.1 has its limitation of scheduling at most 8 concurrent back task at a time.

Is it 1 x backup job with at most 8 x VM in it or 8 x backup job concurrently running???

Also, I read that VDP 6.1 does not scale well and backup job requires regular checking to make sure they won't be stuck at 9x% without completion.

Can anyone comment on how many instance of VDP 6.1 that needs to backup a total of 50 to 80 VM???

ESXi / Dell Precision T7610 HW monitoring

I'm looking for a way to view hardware stats with ESXi 6.7 on a Dell Precision T7610.

I want to be able to use Open Manage Tools / Essentials, but having no luck. I installed the VIB from https://vinfrastructure.it/2018/08/dell-emc-omsa-vsphere-6-7-vib/ , but doesn't appear this enables anything for me.

Or do I need to install Open Manage on a guest OS and somehow pass through the T7610 to that VM? It's also possible that the T7610 isn't supported at all with OMSA.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

ESXi - Storage

I have installed ESXi 6.5 on 3 devices - on a 500Gb Crucial SST, on a 240Gb Kingston SST and on a 260Gb Seagate HDD. When I go on the WEB admin interface of ESXi, I do not see any Storage. If I click on Storage, there no device. It is just written No items to display. How can this be, since all devices that I have tried it on are 200+ Gb in size?

I can't create a New Datastore and I can't create any VM.

If I go into Storage - Devices, I can see my HDD, I can see the partitions and I can see the Free-space Partition too. The only thing I can do is to Clear the Partition Table. I can't do any other changes.

I am stuck and I do not know if it is a problem with my HDD or with my desktop all-together.

Please also the see images attached.

Please help.

Thank you in advance.

Intel CPU Vulnerability

We are currently using Dell R440 servers.

We are using vSphere 6.5 until we decided to upgrade to 6.7 update 1.

Now the hosts are giving warnings of the  CVE-2018-3646 vulnerability.

Checked the issue and was pointed to the KB VMware Knowledge Base

My questions are the following:

1. Did we did the right thing to upgrade the hosts to version 6.7 update 1?

2. Do we now have to follow to follow the steps indicated in the KB?

3. Checked the KB and found out that it is detected since 6.5. My question is why in 6.7 that we encountered the warning?

4. Do we need to re-install to something later version or go back to 6.5?

Hope someone knowledgeable with the vulnerability can answer my queries.

Thanks!

vSphere ESXi 6.5.0 Hardware Sensors

Hello Everyone,

I have a Q170 based motherboard and have successfully loaded ESXi 6.5.0. However, ESXi does not display any Hardware Sensor Data and reports "No Sensor Data Available".

Does ESXi require BMC or IMPI to obtain hardware database? Does it not get at least basic sensor information from the CPU sensors, etc.?

Thanks

I read "Up to 8-way virtual SMP" limit with free edition of vmware server esxi.

Does this mean that all my running virtual machines cannot have more than 8 cpu?

Thanks in advance.

vSphere Replication - Cloud Service providers ?

Good morning team .

I have seen vSphere Replication's ability to replicate to a "cloud provider" for many years now .

The question is , with VMware's vCloud AIR now something of the past how do you find an eligible target ?

Been trying to find answers on VMware Sales and Google etc has not been very fruitful .

Any guidance from specifically the EMEA UK region please .

Hoping VMware Cloud on AWS could be an option , without vSAN and SRM .

vSphere 6.7 End Of Support Date

Hi There. I am curious as to why vSphere 6.7 end of general support date (15/11/2021) is the same end date as 6.5.

Is 6.7 not considered a major release?

VMs intermittent loses network connectivity.

Hi,

We have a strange problem/bug in our new VMware cluster.

Environment

BL460 gen10 with HP FlexFabric 20Gb 2-port 650FLB Adapter

HPE C7000 chassis

vSphere 6.0 (build 6775062)

ESX01,ESX03 and ESX03 are in chassi01

ESX04,ESX05 and ESX are in chassi02

VMs intermittent loses network connectivity.

When this happens the “remedy” is to migrate the specific VM to some other host in the cluster.

So far it seems that it doesn’t matter if I migrate the VM to a VMhost inside the same chassis or to the other chassis , just a migration seems to solve the issue. (I can’t migrate it back to the same host though)

I have around 150 VMs in this cluster and so far I’ve had issues with 5-6 of them , completely random.

They could be on any of my VMhosts in the cluster.

Haven’t created any support case with VMware or HPE yet , this forum post is my first advance to tackle this problem.

All firmware is updated to the latest from HPE

Someone who have seen similar issues?

Regards

Johan
