Login problems with Log Insight

Hi. I just deployed LI 3.3.2 today and all seems good until I leave the appliance for a while and then go back to it. I find that every login attempt gives me the following error - "HTTP Status 403 - CSRF nonce validation failed". A reboot id required to restore access. I've had to do this twice today.

Has anybody else seen this?

Cheers,

Neil.

Unable to connect to vDP and getting "Could not connect to the requested VDP Appliance."

Hi All,

I have installed a new vCenter 5.1 update 3d in which deployed 5.8.4 vDP VMware appliance (VMware Data Protection). Which is compatible checked in compatiblity matrix. I was not getting option for plugin in vSphere web client, later on, tried with one version lower 5.8.3 and 5.1.11.3.

After raising case with VMware, I got know that vDP 5.8.0 VMware Compliance is more stable then other versions with vCenter 5.1 update 3d. Earlier there was aproblem with vDP plugin in web vSphere, it is came now. However I am unable to connect to vDP.

It showing teh following error. Reverese and forward lookup is proper and tried unregistering the vdp parameter from the mob, restrated web services, restrated vCenter. Have somebody experienced this issue in their environment?

Could not connect to the requested VDP Appliance.

The SSO Server could not be found. Please make sure the SSO and DNS servers are available on the network and all settings are configured properly.

Would you like to be directed to the VDP Configuration utility to troubleshoot the issue?

pnic vs. pnic in networkInfo

I have found strange thing,

when I call host.configManager.networkSystem.networkInfo.pnic , I receive Array of VcPhysicalNic

But when I call host.configManager.networkSystem.networkInfo.vswitch[0].pnic , I receive Array of String (looks to be Array of ....pnic.key)

I'm using Orchestrator 7.0.1. Is it so by design? Is there some other easy way to get physical NICs connected to the standard virtual switch?

Operating System /Remote Service Monitoring Licensing

Hi guys;

Could you please tell me, does the installed agent of the End Point Operations Management Solutions  takes another vRops license or it uses the same license of the VM ?

Thank you.

How to get switch info (public or private network) using SOAP API ?

I can't find a way to get any information about VirtualSwitch using WS API. Only create and remove method:

* addVirtualSwitch

* removeVirtualSwitch

Also there is no common way to get info from  folder, like for PortGroups :

getMOREFs.inFolderByType(rootRef, "Network");

when I try

getMOREFs.inFolderByType(rootRef, "HostVirtualSwitch");

I've got exception: wrong type.

So my original goal is implement two list methods:

listPrivateNetrowrks() // portgroups or virtual switch with out public access (pnic associated)

listPublicNetrowrks()  // networks with public access realized with associated  pnic port to virtual switch

Please HELP!

vmware API makes me crazy ;(

"Remote access for ESXi local user account 'root' has been locked for 120 seconds after 362 failed login attempts." Warning occurs every hour.

Not sure why this is happening. Where can I track down what is causing this?  Where can I see the IP of the host trying to login?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Direct Connection to Linux View Agent?

Is there a linux implementation of the plugin for the View Direct Connection from the PicoIP client (I am using VMware View on Mac) to a Linux desktop?

I just wanted to setup a set of Linux VMs to be accessed via View Clients, from Mac. Also planning to not use a View Connection Server. I have installed a VM for test purpose with Ubuntu on it and setup the Agent as well.

Is there an example of a workflow that reaches out to an API?

Thus far, I've been building workflows that call out to powershell commands that reach out to a restful API that accepts and responds with JSON.

and those workflows work very well as is with a powershell module but there's some overhead there that comes with the use of the powershell module and reaching out to a powershell host locally or remotely.

So that got me thinking about being able to communicate directly with the API from within vRO. Are there any examples of how to make http/https calls directly?

thank you.

Unable to add SDK to eclipse - Could not find jar:file:c:/Users/.../VMware-vRealizeOperations-SDK.zip!/

Hi,

I'm trying to add vROPs SDK to eclipse with Help -> install new software -> add but getting the following error message:

Could not find jar:file:c:/Users/.../VMware-vRealizeOperations-SDK.zip!/

I get it when trying the archive option and also when unzip the sdk and choose the root sdk folder.

I've tried it with eclipse versions: kepler, Luna and Mars.

I've tried it with installing first the "VMware WBIS" plugin and also without installing it.

The probem is probablly not the adding plugin because I can manage to add other plugins.

Any solution will be very helpful because I've run out og ideas.

Thanks,

Erez.

How to build up the start menu in Windows 8.1 Enterprise?

Hi,

I m using VMware Horizon 7 Floating desktop pools W8.1 Enterprise with UEM 9.

I use a mandatory profile to speed up logon times.

When using the mandatory profile in combination with UEM 9 to create start menu shortcuts they are not created.

I know in windows 8.1 you can use a custom fixed start menu with an XML file or a flexbile with a custom start menu in a .bin file in the default profile.

I m using appvolumes so I need to be able to create the shotcuts with UEM otherwise I won't be easy to manage for the customer.

I tried using the default profile as mandatory profile with UEM 9 to create shortcuts but the shortcuts are not created.

What is the best way to set this up?

Local profiles with UEM 9?

Is there a way to get it to work with a mandatory profile because I want fast logon times?

Thanks!

Kinds regards,

Mandatory Profile Windows 8.1 UEM 9 Certificates Personalization not working

Hi,

I m using VMware Horizon 7 floating desktop pools Windows 8.1 enterprise with UEM 9.

I created a mandatory profile for fast logon times and enabled to UEM User configuration GPO Certificate support for mandatory profiles.

When enabled a user is logged in with a temporary profile instead of the mandatory. 4

When I check the UEM debug log for the user it says converting user profile and logon times are up to 35 seconds.

When I don t configure the policy the user is logged on with the mandatory profile. The logon time is within 10 seconds.

This works in Windows 7. Any ideas what is different in Windows 8.1 why this is not working?

Kind regards,

Maarten

After upgrade to VCSA 6: High cpu load after a few hours?

Hi!

I've upgraded our VCSA appliance from 5.5U2 to 6 and everything seemed to went fine but after it ran about 12 hours, the appliance began to eat up the two vCPUs almost completely, rendering the web client as well as any SOAP interfaces pretty useless:

Diagnosing the cause is a little bit difficult for me because even the SSH daemon refuses to accept any connections during those high load periods.

Sometimes I've managed it to get a VIMtop output which was basically telling me that the "CIM health service" is taking up more than 100% cpu time. After this, I've noticed that the health stats for my HP ProLiant G5 (still using an 5.5U2/HP image) were missing when using the web client, although they are still accessible using WBEM directly on the host. Then I've simply deactivated the CIM server on that specific host ... but it didn't help.

When look at VCSA's dmesg output, there are dozens of messages like this one:

IPfilter Dropped: IN=eth OUT= MAC:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff (...) SRC=(varies) DST=255.255.255.255 LEN=68 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x00 TTL=128 ID=26090 PROTO=UDP SPT=58980 DPT=1947 LEN=48
Is this somehow related?

So my question is if anyone has an idea how to troubleshoot this issue in order to track down the root cause?

ESXi inside KVM

Hello!

I wonder, if it is possible to run ESXi 5.0/5.1 inside KVM (proxmox) ?

I need to run few for testing purposes. I cannot setup any other virtualization software.

I need only ESXi itself, even without virtual machines inside it:)

Thanks!

How can I format USB devices from windows under VMWare fusion?

I am running a bootcamp partition under VMWare Fusion 8.1 and I've recently noticed that I am unable to format any external USB devices.  This goes for USB keys as well as external hard disks.  I'm running a mid-2014 Macbook Pro retina 15".

I've tried booting into bootcamp but unfortunately Im having another problem there.  It won't boot up.  In fact I first noticed the problem while trying to build a recovery disk to try and fix the bootcamp booting.

Any help would be hugely appreciated as this is extremely annoying

Unable to 'connect' to VDP after successful appliance deployment

Hi - I hope someone will be able to point me in the right direction to resolve this.

I am trying to deploy the standard 2GB VDP 5.8.4 into a 5.5 environment.

The .ova deploys without issue and powers on.

I log into the suggested web page and am able to confirm the network details and run through the rest of the set up wizard, linking to my chosen VC and adding storage. The wizard completes works for a few mins to add the storage and then reboots the appliance and then the appliance comes up and steps through the configuration until it returns to the standard blue logon screen. Subsequent reboots are just reboots.

I believe the next step is to go into the VDP Node in the webclient, select the appliance from the drop down and click 'Connect' - when I do this the interface 'grey's out and the clock timer symbol appears... and that's it... no failure message, nothing until the client times out or I manually refresh.

All the DNS entries are in place and resolve in both directions, the account I used to join the appliance to VC has full permissions.

I have trawled the KBs looing for something similar but the articles I have found do not appear to apply to these symptoms - I will raise a case if necessary but I'm hoping someone has seen this before and can help me out.
