Hello community,

I have some problems to configurate mail alert by CIM sonsors.... for example, I can't configurate "Alarm Definition" for report problem with power supplies.

I was disconected an a redundant power supplier, and, I can see the "alert" in hardware status tab:

In "Alarm Definition" I can see one "standard definition" for hardware changes, but not was trigger....

Please, any idea why not working for me?

Thanks in advance!

Cannot type (using keyboard) on vSphere Web Client

This is very strange:

I just deployed a new vSphere 6.0 VCSA and am using the webclient (currently Firefox on Win 10) to configure the system.  When I create a new object, there are dialog boxes that require me to input data; for example "New Distributed Port Group" prompts me to input the port group name.  The problem is that the web client is not receiving my keystrokes.  The workaround is everytime I run into a dialog box requiring keystrokes (such as inputting an object name, etc.) I have to click the Windows start button (changing focus away from the browser window) then re-click on the input box and begin typing and it works normally.... until the next dialog box is displayed where I have to click away, then return to finish entering data.  I've seen this before on another completely separate system but never chased down the solution.

Anyone else seen this and have a recommendation?

Upgrade vCenter 6.0U3 to 6.5U1

Quick question.

I am upgrading vcenter to 6.5U1 using the ui installer.

Everything proceeds as normal however right before the data migration I receive an alert stating the there "may be" extenstions that may not work after the upgrade. Specifically NSX and Openstack NGC.

I have review all the interoperability matrices and Openstack 3.1 as well as NSX 6.3.1 is compatible with vcenter 6.5U1

I have since cancelled the upgrade pending advice here as the last thing I want is to do is have VIO offline.

Am I ok to proceed or do I need to obtain upgraded extenstions from somewhere ?

Lastly we are moving our full environment to 6.5 over christmas and I will be upgrading each host one by one while using vmotion to move vm around so as to not affect uptime. Is this a perfectly ok method ? Can two differing ESXi hosts with differing versions be in the same cluster ? I will have 12 servers to do so I expect it to take a day as long as I can have the upgraded hosts with the un-upgraded hosts in the Compute and Management Clusters while they wait to be upgraded.

Thanks

hosts can not ping each other on the same DPortGroup

Hello,

I only have one physical server within 172.18.211.0/24 network, I want to establish a embedded vsphere environments inside the physical server.

1. The physical server has 8 physical network adapters (vmnic1 to vmnic7), the default deployment created a vswitch0 has connected with vmnic0 which is in 172.18.211.0/24 network.

2. I created two ESXi VMs connected with VM Network portgroup of vswitch0 (this is a virtual standard switch), each ESXi VMs has twovirtual network cards like below, and I configured both of ESXi VMs with 172.18.211.X IP address

esxi-vm.png

3. I added these two ESXi host to a Vcenter, and created a virtual distributed switch DSwitch in database. I added two ESXi VM hosts in this DSwitch like below:

QQ20171127-201508@2x.png

QQ20171127-201849@2x.png

4. Because each ESXi VM hosts has two virtual network cards NIC, thus I used one network card NIC of each ESXi VM host as virtual distributed switch DSwitch uplink, like below (uplink 1, uplink 2)

QQ20171127-202438@2x.png

5. I created one CentOS 7 VM in each ESXi VM host, and both of them are connected within DPortgroup, like below:

QQ20171127-203108@2x.png

6. I started up both CentOS 7 VMs and configured both VMs within the same network, for example 192.168.10.0/24

7. Problem: Then it revealed the problem that both CentOS7 VMs can not ping with each other.

8. My Guess: Is this problem cause by building virtual distributed switch on virtual standard switch? therefore two CentOS 7 vm can not ping with each other.

Questions:

1. so why the Two CentOS 7  can not ping each other?

2. Could I use this environment to test NSX and iSCSI, if I create more ESXi VMs on the physical hosts? since I have not tried.

Hope someone could guide me a bit, I am new to vsphere, and trying to learn more about vsphere.

Thank you much in advance.

My esxi6.5 host is automatically rebooted at 11-05 and 11-26t03:36 or so, and the two logs have the same error

NFS41: NFS41_VSIGetMaxQueueDepth:3538

What is the probable cause of this problem? Is exsi6.5 a BUG that has been automatically restarted for a long time

Connect to Target Site issue

Kia Ora.

Using vSphere 6.5 VCSA & latest vReplication in a small environment. SSO, PSC, vCenter all-in-one appliance build.  Connecting to a nested ESXi + vCenter 6.5 target on a separate routed network to build a SRM test POC in one site.

When i try from VCSA Site A to Target Site VCSA Site B i get a yellow dialogue as attached, "Connect to Target Site issue".

Has anyone run across this?

When i try from VCSA Site B to Site A as the target site. it connects. however trying a reconnect from Site A to Site B does not connect.

I am using the SSO Adminsitration@vsphere.x account credentials both ways. I can login with the account to both sites with the Web Client aok.

Checking the About in the vSphere Replication comes back from both sides as Green ok. The time is consistent across the appliances.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

I have recently had to reinstall Mac OSX 10.13.1 after a drive failure.

When I try to run my newly imported BootCamp partition (Win 10) I get the error

"Cannot connect the virtual device sata0:1 because no corresponding device is available on the host."

Then a message

"Virtual device 'sata0:1' will start disconnected."

Then

"No operating system was found." followed by a boot manager screen

RDS Farm Application pools

$

Encountered an issue when there is  an app hosted in 3 RDS hosts configured as 1 farm.

The error was that it is looking for a specific path that is not available on 1 of the 3 hosts.

Checked the 3 servers and found that the app is located on the same path for 3 servers.

But the version of the app on the affected server is lower than on the 2 other servers.

We updated the app version and was able to access the app via HTML.

My question is, what is the best practice or procedure when upgrading the app version per host with no or minimum disruption to the users.

This is critical since, when the error was encountered; even for the path is the same... app will not work since there is version mismatch for the 3 hosts.

How to add Virtual Serial Port to a VM in ESX 6.5 from command line or API?

$

Hi,

I'm developing a script to import an OVF VM to an ESX 6.5 host.

I'm using ovftool command to run the import.

When I try to pass Virtual Serial Port properties (retreieved from .vmx file when I did manually via vSphere Client GUI),

ovftool returned warning:

$ ovftool \

--name="Test04" \

--acceptAllEulas \

-ds=datastore1 \

-dm=thin \

--net:'Network 1=VM Network' \

--prop:serial0.fileType='network' \

--prop:serial0.fileName='telnet://:7004' \

--prop:serial0.yieldOnMsrRead='TRUE' \

--prop:serial0.present='TRUE' \

./Test04.ovf \

vi://root:PASSWORD@172.18.125.43

Opening OVF source: ./FortiGate-VM64.ovf

Opening VI target: vi://root@172.18.125.43:443/

Deploying to VI: vi://root@172.18.125.43:443/

Transfer Completed

Warning:

- OVF property with key: 'serial0.fileName' does not exists.

- OVF property with key: 'serial0.fileType' does not exists.

- OVF property with key: 'serial0.present' does not exists.

- OVF property with key: 'serial0.yieldOnMsrRead' does not exists.

Completed successfully

And Virtual Serial Port is not added after the ovftool import.

After ovftool import,

I have also tried manully edit .vmx file by appending 4 lines at the end:

serial0.fileName = "telnet://:7003"

serial0.fileType = "network"

serial0.present = "TRUE"

serial0.yieldOnMsrRead = "TRUE"

but it still has no effect.

How can I add a "Virtual Serial Port" to an ESX 6.5 VM

without going through vSphere Client GUI or Web GUI?

(Is it possibe to use vim-cmd from ESX host shell?)

ESXi 6.0U3: Intel 82599 10 Gigabit Dual Port (X520) - Rx Maximums and MTU Sizes

$

Question: For the ixgbe driver, why would the Rx Max change from 4096 to 240 when MTU is changes from 1500 to 9000?  Wouldn't that make the Rx buffer ineffective to handle Jumbo Frames?

We have two clusters with the same hardware specs, built with the same ESXi image, same ixgbe async driver, and the Intel 82599 10 Gbps NIC has the same firmware version installed.  But in one cluster, ethtool indicates the Rx maximum cannot be set above 240, and the other indicates 4096.  I found the reason is the MTU size.  On one host where Rx Max == 4096, MTU == 1500.  Whereas on the other host where Rx Max == 240, MTU == 9000.

** Example host where I get option to set Rx maximum to 4096:

On the host where Rx Max == 240, if I changed the MTU from 9000 --> 1500, the Rx Max changes from 240 --> 4096.  Just an FYI as it took me a while to figure out this behavior.

But I'm unsure then how the Rx ring buffer is useful for Jumbo Frames at 240 bytes?
