Lets say i would like to create a 5 or 6 windowsserver labenvironment(dc,dc, exchange, client, dfs,...) In Vmware. I would like to offer this environment to students(around 60) but they need to have their own independent labenvironment.

Anyone who knows how to get this done and what hardware i need? Where can i read how much memory, disks, processorpower i need?

Many thanks for helping.

I have an app stack with chrome and i am having an issue w/ chrome plugins, when i try to install a chrome plug it complains that it could not install package 'COULD_NOT_GET_TEMP_DIRECTORY". I also have a writable volume running so this doesn't seem to be pulling the package to the Writable. Has anyone experienced this before and know a resolution or do i need to build this into my parent image and not use AppVols for this app.

Assigning Multiple vlans when deploying Powercli Script

I have been assigning vLANs (the same network adapter) when I deploy multiple vms and it has worked sucessfully.. My issue now is I have been given vms to deploy with the same specs but different vlans. Is there a way via powercli or csv to have these 10+ vlans assigned via script when deploying my vms? Below is what i've currently been using.. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

virtual harddrives on datastores

Hello,

point me at the documentation if this has already been answered.

I have a virtual database server with 6 virtual harddisks.

I have 6 1TB VMWare iSCSI datastores attached to the ESXi server from the SAN.

All things being equal, is it better to:

put the whole server (6 drives) on 1 datastore,

or spread the drives out over over all the datastores?

Thank You.

VRO - Display execution of Subworkflows

Hello,

I am very new to vRO that has been stood up in my environment.  Something I noticed is that some of my workflows display the execution of subworkflows underneath in the workflow runs.  This is immensely helpful in troubleshooting issues and displaying variables.  It also spawns a workflow run under the child workflow itself

I have noticed though, that not all calls to subworkflows are displayed.  I have tried to research and compare proprieties of workflows that display vs those that do not with no luck.  What determines if a subworkflow is displayed in the workflow run.

Example of a child run attached.

Thanks!

VCSA VAMI backup takes LONG time

Hi. So we are using VCSA v6.6U1c. We have 8 VCSAs and run VAMI backups. Generally the time to calculate the Common and SEAT data is only a couple of minutes. One VCSA for some reason has always taken about 5min to calculate that data, but it does backup properly after.

We moved that VCSA to another cluster, however same underlying SAN datastore. The move had a couple of of issues which has happened to us before that I think are bugs. In that some of VCSA used to be in HA mode, so they have 2nd Nic not doing anything. When moved to new cluster, it had to be on a port group of same name. Odd, but happened 3 times to us.

Anyway, after this move (which we chose "I moved it"), the VAMI now takes about 15min to calculate Common and SEAT data. We cancel it from there, because not sure if something is wrong and would hate for the backup to kerplode the appliance. The appliance however is behaving normally in terms of managing hosts and VMs. Just trying to figure out why this VAMI backup calculation taking 3 times longer now. Thanks,,,

Installing update Manager and getting credentials error

Good morning all,

I have searched high and low for a resolution to this issue and what I have found has not worked for my build yet. I have been trying to get the vsphere update manager 6.0 to install on vcenter server, but it fails every time with the pop up box saying,

" Setup failed with an unknown error. Vcenter server credentials could not be validated".

I searched this site as well and didn't see anything then again I could have over looked it or not be in the right place searching.

I have verified my credentials and they are valid and I have made sure the environment variables have no spaces. I have also tried use the FQDN as the user name

and that didn't help.

Can anyone make any other recommendations on things that I haven't tried?

Thanks again in advance.

Can't delete any folder from writable volumes

Since upgrading to App Volumes 2.13.0, users are no longer able to delete any folder from their writable volume.  This includes folders before the upgrade and any newly created folder.  The user is prompted for admin permissions which even if they're supplied by an admin, they're unable to delete the folder.

This is occurring for folders on the users' desktop as well as locations like C:\temp.

Has anyone else run into this as well?

Repository [MavenCentral ou autre] to add the management SDK as a dependency

Hello,

I'm trying to learn gradle for my project and I would add the VMware SDK Management 6.5 (vim25.jar) as a gradle dependency. However, i don't find in any repository (jcenter, mavenRepository) this sdk.

Is it possible to add this sdk or just the vim25.jar in a central repository ?

Thank you to take a few time to answer me.

We are just about to go live with a production instance of Horizon 7.3 and as part of the  security scan there was a file identified that was deemed a risk. The location is url/broker/test.jsp

We are using the latest UAG and Connection server software but cannot find the file to delete.

Is this file essential and it not does anyone know where it is located so we can delete it?

Thanks!

Add either a reboot or a power on element to a workflow.

I have a workflow that has a ForEach element that mounts an ISO to CDROM to an array of VMs.    This works great.  I would then like to reboot this array of VMs.  I added another ForEach [reboot vm] element and set the array to be traversed to be my VMs.I set the source parameter to be the VM attribute.  I run it and it attempts to work fine, until it hits a VM that is powered off.  IT then stops and errors out.  You can not reboot a VM that is powered off.  I guess I need to check the power state against the array and if the VM is powered off, I woudl like to power it on; if it is powered on, I would like to reboot it.  How would I go about this?

Thanks

Explanation of Virtual SMP

$

Hi All,

I have a license from my employer and am planning a new server build for our lab environment.  The new server will have qty two 10 core processors, so 20 cores.

I checked our license and noticed something:

Product: VMware vSphere 6 Hypervisor Licensed for 2 physical CPUs (unlimited cores per CPU)

License Key: XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX

Expires: Never

Product Features:

    Up to 8-way virtual SMP

Does the 8 way vSMP mean that I can only assign a maximum of 8 cores per Virtual Machine?

If so, is there a different license that I can upgrade to that will allow at least 18 cores to be assigned to a single VM?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Steve

Since Workstation Pro 14 Upgrade – Unable to connect to the mks login (username/password) incorrect

I'm getting this message since the upgrade to Workstation Pro 14. I tried re-installing, but I don't get rid of this error message. I downgraded back to version 12 and the error disappears. So this is clearly an issue of the new release and has nothing to do with our environment.

This also leaves a question, how do I upgrade or install version 13, which also worked fine? I can't find a download to this upgrade.

Our VMs are running on ESXi 5.10

CvdExplore utility not supported in 5.9?

$

Hello folks,

We just recently upgraded from 5.0 to 5.9.

We had previously used the Wanova.Server.Tools.exe CvdExplorer utility to load up a current CVD (or archive) and extract files from it.

In 5.0 that tool had issues when trying to extract a large amount of files, would just quit.

Now in 5.9 when we run it, it says that this tool is no longer supported.

Is there a supported way to open and extract files from CVDs now?

The file portal only gives access to profile type folders.  We need to know if the CVD can be loaded up and extract files from wherever needed, etc.

Thanks!

Problems with payload exchange between vRA and vRO after crash

$

Hi community,

I am experiencing the following problem since a ESXi host crash that contained vRA/vRo appliance and the IaaS host. I set up a PoC for a company and all was running fine so far. Then during adding new subscriptions for some vRO workflows a host crashed and my vRA appliance with the integrated vRO andalso my IaaS machine crashed. After booting the VMs again once the host was up again all seemed to be fine.

But my workflows do not work correct any longer, allthough they are finished with a green arrow. I cant update the properties that I receive via payload from vRA, it just dont work. I then wrote a function to output all properties when I start a vRO workflow. I noticed that my updated or added properties from vRO are added some kind of wrong:

As you can see at the bottom, the IP data is not added to the path payload>machine>properties> VirtualMachine. but to payload>virtualMachineAddOrUpdateProperties.

I changed nothing within the workflows, prior to the crash all workflows worked and now they dont hand back the properties correct :/

I cant see errors in the logs, so I dont know where to look.

I already tried to fix it with deleting/adding subscriptions, endpoints and blueprints. That doesnt helped me. Then I wrote new workflows to test the behaviour and it is still the same.

Any ideas?

Passed the 2V0-622D today

I can't talk about specific details obviously, but I think the materials I used were helpful enough to get a passing grade so I thought I would list them in a single place to help others since next to nothing is out there currently.

  • The official cert guide book. I read this and made flash cards while doing so. this is tricky because it's for 6.0, but i thought it would at least give me a good base. Flash cards are key here. I read this book a month or so ago, but was able to keep the content fresh up until minutes before taking the exam due to the wonder of index cards!

VCP6-DCV Official Cert Guide (Exam #2V0-621), 3rd Edition | Pearson IT Certification

  • vSphere 6.5 product walkthroughs. I think these are great and helped a lot. quick and easy to understand, they go over all the new features and show how to set them up and mention specific requirements or gotchas. And they're free!

Product Walkthroughs

  • The exam blueprint obviously. It's so very close to the 6.0 exam guide though... This is another reason I thought the 6.0 book would be helpful.

Exam Guide

  • VMware Hands-On Labs. Theres a 6.5 lab (HOL-1710-SDC-1 - Introduction to vSphere v6.5)  where you can get, you guessed it, hands-on time with a 6.5 environment to click through all the features and functions you've read about in all these other items.

VMware Learning Platform

  • vBrownbag in general is great. Their 6.5 videos are pretty good, but their blueprint run through is very good. Again, it's based on 6.0, but I thought it was still helpful.

vBrownBag Follow-Up What's New in vSphere 6.5 - vSphere & vCenter Overview w Adam Eckerle @eck79 - YouTube

VCP6-Study-Guide

  • Free VMware self-paced training for what's new in 6.5. Very dry and sleep inducing, but super helpful for this exam.

VMware vSphere: What's New Fundamentals [V6.0 to V6.5]

  • Pluralsight what's new in 6.5 series. I love Pluralsight. They have a lot of great VMware content and this series is no different. They even have some simple 'test your knowledge' questions. My employer is nice enough to pay for my account, but they offer a 10 day or 200 minute, whichever comes first, free trial. The course is under 2 hours so that's plenty of time. They also have a 2V0-621 exam prep series, but that clocks in at 28 hours!!! So pay for a month. they're worth it, and so are you.

What's New in vSphere 6.5? | Pluralsight

  • IT Pro TV's VCP6DCV course. Broken record, I know, but here we have another 6.0 resource that I think was still helpful with me passing the 6.5 delta exam. I found myself questioning some of the statements made throughout this 26 hour course, but overall I think it had a lot of good content and the instructor is good at presenting the material. I watched this course at 2x speed and it was still possible to understand it. Bonus points. Their free tier only gives you live streaming access though so you'll have to pay for a full month to get access to this course.

https://itpro.tv/course-library/vmware-certified-professional-6-vcp6dcv/

And, after all that, there were still a lot of questions on there that I just plain didn't know the answer to netting me a score of 424 which I thought was pretty low considering how well I thought I did as I was taking it.

At any rate, good luck to you. You got this!
