Upgrade host Mac to Mojave; any issues running VMWare 10.1.2 Professional and existing Windows 10 VM?

$

I've read through some of the threads, but I'm not sure I'm getting the answer I'm seeing.

I'm fine right now on in iMac 5k running 10.13.6 High Sierra beta and VMWare Fusion 10.1.2 Professional.  My only VM is a Windows 10 installation.

I would like to upgrade my Mac to Mojave developer beta 2. Are there any issues running my existing VMWare and Tools, and launching my existing VM? Do I need to prep things in advance, or no issues, or known issues?

Thanks

Can't grow VMFS Datastore

$

Hello

I wanted to expand the Datastore because it's running out of free space and the raid1 where it resides had about 50 GB unasigned (I let those 50 GB unused when I initially created the VMFS)

Since I couldn't do it on the GUI (ncrease datastore capacity greyed out), I followed this instructions to do it on the CLI: https://michlstechblog.info/blog/esxi-expand-datastore-from-command-line/

I could expand the partition and all went well until the part of growing the VMFS.

Initial part:

[root@esx:~] partedUtil get /vmfs/devices/disks/eui.b0269f4100d00000

30377 255 63 488017920

1 128 364644400 0 0

[root@esx:~] partedUtil getUsableSectors /vmfs/devices/disks/eui.b0269f4100d00000

34 488017886

[root@esx:~] partedUtil resize /vmfs/devices/disks/eui.b0269f4100d00000 1 128 488017886

[root@esxi:~] vmkfstools -V

If I do as described, using the partition indicator ":1", I get a "not found" message.

I if remove the ":1" from the second argument (destination?), I get a "Failed to get info from head device path"

[root@esx:/dev/disks] vmkfstools --growfs /vmfs/devices/disks/eui.b0269f4100d00000:1 /vmfs/devices/disks/eui.b0269f4100d00000:1

Not found

Error: No such file or directory

[root@esx:/dev/disks] vmkfstools --growfs /vmfs/devices/disks/eui.b0269f4100d00000:1 /vmfs/devices/disks/eui.b0269f4100d00000

Failed to get info from head device path /dev/disks/eui.b0269f4100d00000.

Error: No such file or directory

I'm stucked here and don't know what to do

The partition size is 232 GB but the Datastore is only 173 GB,,,

How to configure SYSLOG for VMware vCloud Usage Meter 3.6.1

Kindly let me know how to configure the SYSLOG settings for VMware vCloud Usage Meter 3.6.1.Yusuf85

I had to change my VMWARE Centos guest from NAT to Bridge and now have to recreate ssh session to guest on host when host connects on different lan.

I had to change my GUEST VM network from NAT to Bridge (that is working) and now whenever my host notebook changes LAN I have to recreate my saved putty ssh session to connect to the guest.

Is there a way to connect to ssh to guest via another IP independent from the interface attached to the bridge network, or even create a secondary network on guest VM configured with NAT just for ssh from host to guest and use the bridge for the guest to talk with the world?

For both I would appreciate instructions on ho to configure.

Win 10 1803 Guest on VMWare 9

I have VM Workstation 9.0.4

I don't think it is possible to upgrade to a newer version with my VMW license.

I am trying to build a Win 10 1803 image.

I hooked up the Win10 iso OK but I had to choose Win8 as the OS since VMW9 does not have Win 10 as an option.

Host machine is Win 10 1803

VMWare is thrashing the CPU for 30 minutes now.

All I see is the Win 10 blue window logo for 30 minutes.

How do I know if it is doing anything useful or just thrashing in a loop?

Can VMW9 build Win10 images using the Win8 option?

Is there a patch for VMW9 that will give it the Win10 guest option?

Thanks

Upgrading horizon view agent beyond 7.0.3 causes login issues.

Hello,

I have a weird issues that I'm hoping someone can help with. Upgrading the vmware view agent from 7.0.3 to any version above on any of our Grid pools (Nvidia Grid - Win 10) causes any user that logs in to be automatically logged out. For some reason this does not apply to admins, but only non admin users (99% of the people in the company. The same issue appears when the agent above 7.0.3 is used on a non floating pool as well.

Here is another piece of random behavior: When installing the view agent by just double clicking, the base image reboots right after the install begins. Just goes black and restarts the image. In order to install it, I have to right click and run as admin to get the install to complete.

Rolling back fixes the issue, but I'm worried that this issue follows us with each new agent version (so far 7.1 and 7.2). I have not been able to load Is there something I should check? I could not find anything that stated that the whole view environment needed to match the agent (the rest of the environment would remain on 7.0.3 for the time being), but I'm thinking I may need to upgrade everything.

CompositeType in action and OGNL

$

Hi,

I create the following action:

var testCompositeType = new Array();

var obj = new Properties();

obj.put("f1","v1");

obj.put("f2",v2");

testCompositeType.push(obj);

return testCompositeType;

return type of the action: Array/CompositeType(f1:string,f2:string):testCompositeType

I created a new workflow with one input which has a predefined answers: GetAction("org...","actionName").call()

When I run my workflow, I received an empty table with header names: f1, f2.

Above it, I have an "Insert value" botton when I click it, I can only add new composite values for f1 and f2.

I thought it would give me the inputs I had entered in the action (obj) - what is my mistake?

Thanks.

Expand vSAN datastore

I have three hosts and they are setup as below. My vSAN datastore is showing 10GB free so I increased the size of the LUNs presented to the hosts and am hoping that the vSAN datastore increases as well, but it hasn't so far and I cannot figger out why not?

Host01 (VMware ESXi, 6.5.0, 9298722)

-- mpx.vmhba1:C0:T0:L0,disk,10.00 GB,HDD (Boot disk)

-- mpx.vmhba1:C0:T3:L0,disk,40.00 GB,Attached,HDD (was 20GB and I increased it to 40GB)

-- mpx.vmhba1:C0:T2:L0,disk,20.00 GB,Attached,HDD

-- mpx.vmhba1:C0:T1:L0,disk,5.00 GB,Attached,Flash (cache disk)

Host02 (VMware ESXi, 6.5.0, 9298722)

-- mpx.vmhba1:C0:T0:L0,disk,10.00 GB,HDD (Boot disk)

-- mpx.vmhba1:C0:T3:L0,disk,40.00 GB,Attached,HDD (was 20GB and I increased it to 40GB)

-- mpx.vmhba1:C0:T2:L0,disk,20.00 GB,Attached,HDD

-- mpx.vmhba1:C0:T1:L0,disk,5.00 GB,Attached,Flash (cache disk)

Host03 (VMware ESXi, 6.5.0, 9298722)

-- mpx.vmhba1:C0:T0:L0,disk,10.00 GB,HDD (Boot disk)

-- mpx.vmhba1:C0:T3:L0,disk,40.00 GB,Attached,HDD (was 20GB and I increased it to 40GB)

-- mpx.vmhba1:C0:T2:L0,disk,20.00 GB,Attached,HDD

-- mpx.vmhba1:C0:T1:L0,disk,5.00 GB,Attached,Flash (cache disk)

vSAN Disk Management shows the disks and the correct sizing:

Disk Model/Serial Number,Disk Tier,Total Capacity,vSAN Health Status,Disk Distribution/Host

"VMware   Virtual disk    , 5.00 GB disks",Cache,15.00 GB,Healthy,1 disk on 3 hosts

                 Local VMware Disk (mpx.vmhba0:C0:T1:L0),Cache,5.00 GB,Healthy,Host03

                 Local VMware Disk (mpx.vmhba0:C0:T1:L0),Cache,5.00 GB,Healthy,Host02

                 Local VMware Disk (mpx.vmhba1:C0:T1:L0),Cache,5.00 GB,Healthy,Host01

"VMware   Virtual disk    , 40.00 GB disks",Capacity,120.00 GB,Healthy,1 disk on 3 hosts

                 Local VMware Disk (mpx.vmhba0:C0:T3:L0),Capacity,40.00 GB,Healthy,Host03

                 Local VMware Disk (mpx.vmhba0:C0:T3:L0),Capacity,40.00 GB,Healthy,Host02

                 Local VMware Disk (mpx.vmhba1:C0:T3:L0),Capacity,40.00 GB,Healthy,Host01

"VMware   Virtual disk    , 20.00 GB disks",Capacity,60.00 GB,Healthy,1 disk on 3 hosts

                 Local VMware Disk (mpx.vmhba0:C0:T2:L0),Capacity,20.00 GB,Healthy,Host03

                 Local VMware Disk (mpx.vmhba0:C0:T2:L0),Capacity,20.00 GB,Healthy,Host02

                 Local VMware Disk (mpx.vmhba1:C0:T2:L0),Capacity,20.00 GB,Healthy,Host01

However the vSAN disk capacity has not changed:

Capacity: 82.45GB

Used: 66.41GB

Free: 16.04GB

If I understand correctly, my vSAN datstore should have the sum of all local disks on all hosts which should now equate to 15GB + 120GB + 60GB = 195GB? How do I get the rest of the disk space to show in the vSAN?

What magic spell do I need to cast to pass an HPE H240 SAS controller to Windows Server 2012 R2/2016 and not have the VM hard lock?

SRM 6.5 plugins not show on vCenter Appliance 6.5

Hi all,

I have VCSA 6.5, ESXi 6.5 and SRM 6.5. Same version Production and DR

I have successfully installed SRM 6.5 on WS2K8 R2. I went to vCenter but the plugins is not show. I restart the vSphere web client but nothing. Anything that I missing here.

Thanks.

SRM 6.5 (windows) is not showing up on Vcenter after install

I am trying to get an answer to my issue asap. I've deployed vsphere replication appliance (6.5)  to my prod site and DR site vcenters and I've got replication going.  Then I installed SRM 6.5 to windows VM for each site but SRM plugin is not showing on my Vcenters - both prod and DR sites.  Any suggestion on how to fix this?  VMWare support does not respond within 48 hours unless it is a sev 1 or 2 cases. Any lead is appreciated.

Thank you.

Case sensitivity in filter for REST API

Hello,

I want to get a VM by its name but the filter seems to be case-sensitive. I have VMs that have uppercase and lowercase names. Is there a way to specify a case insensitive search?

Here's the GET URL I used in Postman. For a VM with all uppercase name, my filter with lowercase fails with a return of empty value.

https://{vc}}/rest/vcenter/vm?filter.names.1=<vm name>

Thanks for any help,

Donna

Possible to have Auto Deploy to listen on more than one Interface in a Single vCenter instance.

I have two interfaces on my ESXI Server that hosts the vCenter vApp.   By default Auto Deploy will listen on the vCenter primary management interface when enabled.

I have added a second VMKernel nic with management support on the second NIC.  Is possible for Auto Deploy to listen on both interfaces?

For example primary vmnic0  172.30.10.5/24  vmnic1  192.168.42.30/24

I would want Auto deploy to listen on both IP's.

Current only node1 (vmnic0) 172.30.10.5 will be used by Auto Deploy.

thanks in advance.

Changed my VCenter Ip address and now I can't delete my pools

I just did an IP schema change on my vdi environment everything went good upgraded from Horizon 7.4 to 7.6. But I can't delete the old VCenter (it was connected by IP address in horizon) when I try to delete it, it say's I have to delete the pools first. So when I try to delete the pools it can't because it can not connect to the old Vcenter is there a way around that? I need to delete the old vcenter and add the new vcenter to the connection brokers. Thanks.

Wanted to report that my Fusion 11 Pro is running great on Mojave

Just want to say thanks for such a smooth upgrade.  Experienced practically zero issues.  I almost never ever install a "point-oh" product, but the tech preview worked so well that I couldn't resist.

I run less than a dozen VMs on Fusion from Win10, Win Datacenter 2016, several variants of Ubuntu and CentOS.  Plus a boatload of linked clones under Fusion + Vagrant and the vmware-vagrant plugin and a boatload of LXC/LXD containers under Ubuntu 16.04 running on Fusion.  A few network slowdowns when I have a ton of Vagrant boxes lit up, but I suspect that is a result of my misconfiguring networking in the Vagrantfile.

Again, thanks to vmware and all those who test the tech previews.

Hi All,

I am new to log insights. We recently configured log insight and fed some logs to it and it seems like it is reading the same log line again and again. So we tested with API. I fired just one instance and it made more than 800 entries in 5 mins. Any pointers to check what setting might be wrong?

Resource Pools and reservations

Is there a best practice around resource pools and individual reservations?  For example, vms are in a resource pool but still have individual cpu and memory reservations. I just discovered a customer case where they were doing this and I want to advice against it but with some reference material.

Thank YOu
