VMWare Fusion 10.0.1 doesn't see USB devices anymore [SOLVED]

$

My previous setup was:

MacOS 10.12 Sierra

VMWare Fusion 7.1, running

- Windows 7

- Windows 10

All was fine until I upgraded to MacOS 10.13, High Sierra.

Started VMWare Fusion, all well. Started the Windows 7 VM and my iMac crashed instantly. Split second.

Upgraded to VMWareFusion 10.0.1.

Got the "System Extension Blocked" message and allowed VMWare Fusion in the MacOS Security & Privacy settings.

But both Windows 7 and Windows 10 VM's don't see USB devices anymore. No error message, no warning. They just don't see them.

I Googled around, even saw the other post related the subject below, but no solution found.

???

Edit: Completely removed VMWare Fusion and did a clean install. Still the same problem...

Edit 2: Shouldn't there be an usbarbitrator service running in the VM's? I don't see any. Also /var/run/vmware doesn't show anything related.

Edit 3: The service usbarbitration (on the host) doesn't run. /Library/Logs/VMware USB Arbitrator Service.log contents:

2017-10-07T19:47:01.361| ServiceImpl_Daemon: PID 833

2017-10-07T19:47:01.362| ServiceImplRef: Before start().

2017-10-07T19:47:01.576| Warning: UsbarbServiceCommon: exit status 6912.

2017-10-07T19:47:01.576| ServiceImplRef: After start().

2017-10-07T19:47:01.576| ServiceImplDaemon: Exiting with code 0.

Started VMWare Fusion and started usbarbitrator by hand: sudo /Applications/VMware\ Fusion.app/Contents/Library/vmware-usbarbitrator --kext /Applications/VMware\ Fusion.app/Contents/Library/kexts/vmioplug.kext

Same results, not working, not running. And log file shows the same.

Beats me.

Hi all - long time listener, first time caller.

I'm running into this message again, it first popped up in vRA 7.2, and then recently resurfaced in vRA 7.3. The message occurs after importing the XML file and committing the update set, and then attempting to configure the OAUTH settings under basic configurations.

Hi luc,

there is one parameter in set-harddisk command as below which is deprecated in powercli version 6.5

has it been reintroduced in powercli 10 as it will avoid login to os and extend partition manully.

also as per above description it can be extended by using below .what should be the correct code using below expression if we need to increase d drive from 100gb to 120GB.

assuming hard disk has alredy been increased.

Invoke-Command -ComputerName $vm -ScriptBlock {

$size = Get-PartitionSupportedSize -DriveLetter D

Resize-Partition -DriveLetter D -Size $size.SizeMax

Unable to delete or unmount a datastore because file system is busy

ESXi 5.5 VMFS3

I'm trying to delete or unmount a datastore but both are failing with below error messages.

UNMOUNT. - Out of the 5 hosts in cluster it is unmounted from 4 while it's still mounted on one host & gives below error

Call "HostStorageSystem.UnmountVmfsVolume" for object "storageSystem-3994" on vCenter Server "xyz" failed.

Cannot unmount volume 'Datastore Name: abc VMFS uuid: 507978c7-f56a954c-b170-782bcb507614' because file system is busy. Correct the problem and retry the operation.

DELETE - if trying to delete it's giving me below error.

Call "HostDatastoreSystem.RemoveDatastore" for object "datastoreSystem-3994" on vCenter Server "xyz" failed.

Cannot remove datastore 'Datastore Name: abc VMFS uuid: 507978c7-f56a954c-b170-782bcb507614' because file system is busy. Correct the problem and retry the operation.

I browsed through the datastore, there's only folder named .vSphere-HA while if I check the datastore hearbeating in HA properties, this datastore is not a part of Datastore heartbeats as well.

Tried restarting mgmt services - Didn't work

Tried disabling HA & then deleting/unmounting datastore - Didn't work

Triedhttp://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=2069171 - Didn't work

Rebooting the host would be last option, but I'm looking for a fix on this.

cannot svMotion disk to thin if using paravirtual adapter

$

Hi,

I am trying to get rid of some thick disks in our environment, and I am consistently seeing that if a thick disk is handled by the paravirtual adapter, I cannot svMotion it to thin. The svMotion goes thru successfully, but it's still thick. Is this expected behavior or some sort of bug? Taking the VMs down and using vmkfstools isn't really an option.

We're on vCenter 6.5u2c and the hosts are either 6.5u1 or 6.5u2. Tools are generally current and virtualHw versions are 10 and higher.

Thanks

Is it possible to replicate across two different sites with VMware replication when they are managed by 2 different vcenters? (I can implement linked mode if I need to.)

Are there any other solutions out there that can do this? (Ideally without linked mode)

Hi,

I'm using Fault Tolarenace with legacy storage , creating the secondary VM means to create a new VM folder containing a copy of all the VMX, VMK and so on.

If my primary VM is in a VSAN datastorem,  deployed with FTT=1, I already have a replica of the files.

Enabling FT mean to create a second pair of files ?

UPDATE (October 2nd, 2018)

ATTENTION PRODUCTION SUPPORT CUSTOMERS

With the release of Skyline Advisor, Production Support customers will no longer receive an Operational Summary Report (OSR). Production Support customers can view all their proactive findings and recommendations within Skyline Advisor. You will no-longer have access to the OSR download portal, nor will you be able to download OSRs from within Skyline Advisor.

----------

The Operational Summary Report (OSR) provides you with the Findings and Recommendations proactively identified by Skyline. You will receive an email notification each time a new Operational Summary Report is available for you to download.

Premier Services customers: You will continue to receive your Operational Summary Report (OSR) as part of your regular engagement with your Support Account Manager/Engineer. This is an additional benefit to you as part of your Premier Services contract that includes regular, interactive discussions and consultative recommendations from a dedicated VMware Technical Support Engineer. Premier Services customers will not be able to retrieve their Operational Summary Report using the link below. If you have any questions please contact your Support Account Manager/Engineer.

Production Support customers, download your Operational Summary Report here:

Download Your Operational Summary Report

Use your My VMware account to login and download your Operational Summary Report. The Operational Summary Report contains a Deployment Summary, a Recommendation Summary and the individual Findings and Recommendations discovered by Skyline.

  • The Deployment Summary provides you with a high-level inventory of all the objects associated with the corresponding vCenter Server or NSX Manager.
  • The Recommendation Summary helps you understand where your most critical potential issues exist, so that you can proactively begin resolving these potential issues before they become problems within your environment. Each Finding is given a severity level of Critical, Moderate or Trivial. For each vCenter Server and NSX Manager, a summary for
  • Each potential issue is provided to you as a Finding and Recommendation. Each Finding contains a description of the issue along with recommendation to resolve the potential issue. These recommendations could include Knowledge Base articles, best practices, white papers or some other form of official VMware documentation. Each Finding has the following properties:
    • FindingID: Each Finding has a unique FindingID that allows you search for additional details related to the Finding.
    • Date Actioned: The date the potential issue was discovered by Skyline.
    • Priority: Critical, Moderate or Trivial, based upon the potential impact the issue could have on your environment.
    • Number of Findings: The number of objects that could be impacted by the potential issue. If you have more than 1 vCenter Server and/or NSX Manager attached to the Skyline Collector, the number of objects for each vCenter Server and/or NSX Manager will be displayed.
    • Issue Description: A description of the potential issue
    • Recommendations: A Knowledge Base article, best practice, white paper or other form of official VMware documentation that provides you with additional details about the issue as well as step-by-step for how to resolve the potential issue.

When you are ready to begin remediating a Finding within your environment, you can use the rules.zip file to find the details for each of the objects potentially impacted by the potential issue. For example, you are reviewing a Finding within the Operational Summary Report and see that 5 objects could be impacted within the vCenter Server or NSX Manager. However, you don't know which 5 objects. Open the rules.zip file, search for the unique FindingID associated with the Finding you are reviewing, open that file and you can now see which 5 objects (ESXi hosts, virtual machines, distributed switch, datastore, etc.) are impacted by that Finding.

You can also use the unique FindingID if you have a question about the issue and/or recommendation within the Skyline Community. This enables the Technical Support Engineers moderating the Skyline Community to identify the particular Finding you have a question about as well as further helping you remediate the potential issue.

Disclaimer: The processes, methods and content utilized and/or provided for the duration of the pilot may not reflect the final implementation of proactive support with Skyline services for Production Support entitled customers. The delivery of the Findings and Recommendations through the Operational Summary Report may not reflect the final implementation of proactive support with Skyline services for Production Support entitled customers.

How do I manually add driver for USB attached network interface

$

0

Hello,

     I have an ESXi v6.7 deployment on a Dell Optiplex 7040 hardware with one onboard NIC. I want to enable a 2nd NIC and have obtained a USB attached Ethernet adapter to that end. The device comes with a CD containing the needed driver files (with .c and .h extensions) with a makefile provided for compilation:

asix.c

asix.h

axusbnet.c

axusbnet.h

Makefile

readme

I am though, not certain on the system where to execute this so as to install the drivers and thereby the USB connected NIC. The instructions advise:

============================================================================

ASIX AX88178 USB 2.0 Gigabit Ethernet Network Adapter

ASIX AX88772 USB 2.0 Fast Ethernet Network Adapter

ASIX AX88772A USB 2.0 Fast Ethernet Network Adapter

ASIX AX88760 USB 2.0 MTT HUB and USB 2.0 to Fast Ethernet Combo Controller

ASIX AX88772B USB 2.0 Fast Ethernet Network Adapter

ASIX AX88772C USB 2.0 Fast Ethernet Network Adapter

Driver Compilation & Configuration on the Linux

============================================================================

This driver has been verified on Linux kernel 2.6.14 and later.

================

Prerequisites

================

Prepare to build the driver, you need the Linux kernel sources installed on the

build machine, and make sure that the version of the running kernel must match

the installed kernel sources. If you don't have the kernel sources, you can get

it from www.kernel.org or contact to your Linux distributor. If you don't know

how to do, please refer to KERNEL-HOWTO.

Note: Please make sure the kernel is built with one of the "Support for

       Host-side, EHCI, OHCI, or UHCI" option support.

===========================

Conditional Compilation Flag

===========================

[AX_FORCE_BUFF_ALIGN]

Description:

       There are alignment issues of USB buffer in some USB host controllers.

       Turn on this flag if the implementation of your USB host controller

       cannot handle non-double word aligned buffer.

       When turn on this flag, driver will fixup egress packet aligned on double

       word boundary before deliver to USB host controller.

Setting:

    1 -> Enable TX buffers forced on double word alignment.

    0 -> Disable TX buffers forced on double word alignment.

Default:

    0

================

Getting Start

================

1. Extract the compressed driver source file to your template directory by the

   following command:

    [root@localhost template]# tar -xf DRIVER_SOURCE_PACKAGE.tar.bz2

2. Now, the driver source files should be extracted under the current directory.

   Executing the following command to compile the driver:

    [root@localhost template]# make

3. If the compilation is well, the asix.ko will be created under the current

   directory.

4. If you want to use modprobe command to mount the driver, executing the

   following command to install the driver into your Linux:

    [root@localhost template]# make install

================

Usage

================

1. If you want to load the driver manually, go to the driver directory and

   execute the following commands:

    [root@localhost template]# insmod asix.ko

2. If you had installed the driver during driver compilation, then you can use

   the following command to load the driver automatically.

    [root@localhost anywhere]# modprobe asix

If you want to unload the driver, just executing the following command:

    [root@localhost anywhere]# rmmod asix

================

Special define

================

There is a RX_SKB_COPY preprocessor define in asix.h can solve rx_throttle problem

in some version of 3.4 Linux kernel. Removing the comment before the define can enable

this feature.

Thanks in advance for assistance in this regard.

unable to deploy NSX-v controllers 6.4.1

Hello,

I'm trying to setup a new NSX lab but I'm getting some problem deploying controllers. My lab is composed by 3 ESXi 6.7u1 hosts nested on a couple of physical ESXi hosts (6.0 U3). NSX Manager and VCSA are deployed on the nested cluster. When I try to deploy a controller it fails with the error:

Pushing File

Operation failed on VC. For more details, refer to the rootCauseString or the VC logs

I've no firewalls between VCSA and NSX Manager and I can reach them each others.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Nicola

VcSdkConnection and getAllManagedObjects method

$

Hi everyone

I have a variable that contain VcSdkConnection object

when I am executing the method getAllManagedObjects then I get an error.

probably I am not executing correctly the method and thus I need assistance with this.

here is the code that I am using:

System.log("with Properties: displayName");

var XPath_query = "xpath:displayName[contains(.,'lab-vc01')]";

System.log(XPath_query);

var VcSdkConnection_Array = Server.findAllForType("VC:SdkConnection",XPath_query);

System.log(VcSdkConnection_Array.length);

System.log("with Properties: displayName"+" "+"getAllManagedObjects()");

var allManagedObjects = VcSdkConnection_Array[0].getAllManagedObjects("","","");

so what you need to focus his the following:

*******************************

var allManagedObjects = VcSdkConnection_Array[0].getAllManagedObjects("","","");

*******************************

you can read the document about VcSdkConnection.allManagedObjects() in the following URL:

vRO API Explorer by Dr Ruurd and Flores of ITQ

https://www.vmware.com/support/orchestrator/doc/vro-vsphere60-api/html/VcSdkConnection.html#getAllManagedObjects

the Parameters that getAllManagedObjects expect to get are the following:

sdkType

additionalPropertyFilters

query

sdkType which is type of String and it is VI type

additionalPropertyFilters which is type of string[] and it is Top level property filters

query which is type of string and it is XPath query

my target is to retrieve from vCenter MOB the following fields:

the 1st is:

***********************************

Data Object Type: OptionValue

Parent Managed Object ID: VpxSettings

Property Path: setting["VirtualCenter.FQDN"]

the value field

***********************************

and you can see the following image that I took from vCenter MOB:

1st.jpg

the 2nd is:

***********************************

Data Object Type: OptionValue

Parent Managed Object ID: VpxSettings

Property Path: setting["VirtualCenter.InstanceName"]

the value field

***********************************

and you can see the following image that I took from vCenter MOB:

2nd.jpg

my 1st question is:

how to retrieve this through sdkconnection object ?

what I should retrieve ?  which type of object ?  is it Managed Object ? or this is Managed Object Reference ?

also , you can read above that one of the parameters which I need to provide is: sdkType

how can I know the list of all sdkType values that exist ? I couldn't find this.

I will be glad if someone can assist me in understanding how to retrieve Managed Object and how to retrieve Managed Object Reference.

I am sure that there are many users that willing to understand this subject. so it will be big contribution for the vRealize Orchestrator users that develop automation implementation

thanks.
