vCAC 5.2 Install failure

Greetings !

 

I'm unable to install vcac 5.2, it fails during model manager installation. Logs does not really tell what is wrong, I have done this several times before and never seen it before. Any clues are much appreciated, thank you.

Connection server - Port 80

Hi there

 

 

I am having problem with installing connection server (Security Server) on a virtual machine after few initial steps it failed as

 

 

"TCP port 80 is already in use. This port needs to be available for product to be installed. Please removed any software the might be using this port and try again."

 

 

 

 

 

I used netstats to find which programme is using port 80 and revealed that Systems using it.

 

 

Any Idea how to close port 80 in order to install Connection Server.

VM boot

After a weekly refresh, the vm in VMware Horizon View shows a status of "Startup" and will not allow someone to boot to the machine unless it's reset. There are no error messages, it just hangs at startup. At other times, vm's can take 10 minutes or longer to boot. What would cause these issues? This is a Windows 7 64 bit machine and no changes have been made.

VCSA 5.5 U1 very slow?

I updates a ESXi server to 5.5 U1 yesterday and also updated the VCSA to 5.5 U1. Since then, when connected to the VCSA using the Vsphere Client, browsing any object is very slow. CPU usage for the VCSA goes to 100%. I already rebooted all, this made no change. Any idea what might be going on?

Setup cannot continue. Microsoft Runtime DLL installer failed to complete installation

I am newbie to virtualization. Have new PC with 64-bit Windows 7. Downloaded VMware-server-2.0.2-203138.exe. Double-click to run installer, see VMware server spash screen. Installation progress bar gets 90% done and stops. 5 sec later alert pops up titled Product Installation and says: Setup cannot continue. The Microsoft Runtime DLL installer failed to complete installation.

 

I've searched VMware forums and google extensively. Most suggestions point to registry problem. I've run CCleaner and Glary Utilities for registry fixing and I still get the same error. I don't have any Windows issues with this PC--everything runs fine.

 

Please help.

VmWare, Ubuntu, xRDP and Network Issues

Hi All,

 

So we are experiencing something we can't quite figure out.

 

What we have is :

 

ESXi 5.5

Ubuntu 12.04 VMs

xRDP on VMs for RDP access.

iSCSI NAS for VM storage.

vCenter Server (Physical Machine)

VXL Thin Clients running Ubuntu OS

Remmina RDP client on Ubuntu OS

 

The networking is like this:

1) ESXi, NAS are connected to one switch

2) vCenter is connected to a different switch

3) Thin Clients are connected to a third switch

4) All these switches are connected to an L3 switch

 

The issue:

1) Users experience RDP slowness, Drops and Hangs. But the VmWare Performance counters don't show anything.

2) We were thinking it might be a network issue, so we did was to RDP to VM and run Video on the VM. From the Labs where the Thin Clients are, we start experience ping drops, upto 60%.

    From the vCenter PC, we do RDP to even 10 of these VMs and run Ping tests, no loss.

 

We have tried to advice the client that is something on their network infrastructure that's causing it, but they don't agree. They are saying if they use a Windows Physical Machine, put into switch connected to ESXi's switch and RDP it from the ThinClients and run the Video, no Ping Drops again.

 

We are sure its their network but don't if its at VmWare side or physical network side. We need to prove either way to move forward.

 

Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

 

Also, please let us know if anyone needs any logs to check the issues.

Storage VS Storage

Hi,

 

We are currently in a process of deciding which storage we should choose for our VMware environment.

 

The environment is put together of 3 physical Dell servers, and one EMC NX4 NAS box with two extra arrays, effective storage of 10 TB. That is with RAID and hot spares configured.

 

Currently we are looking at three different Storage types. Dell Equallogic 6100XV or 6210XS, the new EMC vnxe2 or Nimble CS240.

 

Today we are also using Cifs for user home folders and Citrix profiles, but would like to push this out to a virtual windows server, so we can use Veeam to back it up.

 

Any suggestions or experiences would be highly appreciated.

[SOLVED] disk space runs out a gig every ~15 seconds - ubuntu host win7 guest

Hi,

 

I installed ubuntu 13.10 onto my laptop on an SSD (256Gb), then downloaded vmware workstation trial (with a view to purchase, if it suits my purpose)....everything went well so far, however, whilst working in the vm after a while....I noticed that my disk space was running out at a rate of 1gig / ~15 seconds. Anyone ever seen this before? (the OS is using encryption...which I don't know much about, but doubt this is causing the issue), but surely there is one other ubuntu user who has an SSD and installed win7 via vmware workstation that might know what's going on.


update: looks like there was an issue with "enable write cache" and SCSI hard drive. Have changed to SATA and unticked "enable write cache" and it seems to be fixed.

Maintenance Mode Question

We currently do not utilize Admission Control. I know, I know. But it's not my call. Well now I have a two-node cluster with each host showing over 90% memory utilization. I'm concerned that I will not be able to put one host into maintenance mode. Is there anything I can do in a situation such as this short of powering off select VMs?

How to speed up vSphere Web Client

Hello,

 

we've got a vCenter Server (as VM - 8 cores, 16GB RAM) and running vSphere 5.1 on all hosts.

 

Since the upgrade to 5.1 we're using the Web Client (as recommended) - but the Web Client seems to be so much slower than the Windows Client.

 

Any ideas how to speed up the web client?

EXCHANGE - quiesce snapshot

Using a quiesce snapshot (Trilead VM Explorer)  to backup an Exchange Server Windows 2008R2 on ESXi 5.5 is a best praticte method or it's better don't use the quiesce?

I have this situation:

 

16Gb Ram, it takes 45 min to take the memory snapshot.

 

Then during the MEMORY snapshot i have this errors:

 

2003 IIS http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc735241(v=ws.10).aspx

Event ID 250 ExchangeStoreDB

12289 VSS

137 NTFS

 

Then the quiesce end OK, and i can again relogin to IIS and ECp, OWA ecc....

 

Could be a normal behavior or it's better to take a backup without quiescing?

ESXi 5.5 wont allow me to connect using HTTPS/HTTP/vSphere client

I've been racking my skull all day now, and tried a hundred and one 'solutions' but still can't fix this Lol

 

Basically, I install ESXi 5.5, and it gets to the screen where it says:

 

Download tools to manage this host from:

http://StretchHost/

http://192.168.0.2/ (STATIC)

 

So, that's what I do ... Or at least try to ...

 

When I connect from my browser from my client (Tried from both Windows and Linux), it first shows me the Certificate warning, and I click 'Continue anyway' ... But then nothing happens

 

I can ping the server, I can SSH into the server, but nothing else.

 

I got the vSphere client, by finding the link in the index.html file on the ESXi server, and downloading it, but that wont connect either.

 

Anyone had this problem and managed to fix it?

host profile failures compliance

i have a host that i used a reference and createa host profile from it.

 

Then I have a brand new host that joined the cluster and I attached the profile to it. After checking for compliance I saw a lot of errors. things like iscsi is not enabled and nic order does not match.

 

wouldnt the host profile be able to enable the software iscsi and Capture.JPG

make all the neccessary changes from the reference host to the new host? When i applied the profile, i lost connection to the management interface too.

Random VMware Workstation 10.0.1 Crash/Hang, Windows 7 Host and Windows 7 Client

When running VMware Workstation 10.0.1, the client OS occasionally freezes up and stops responding.

 

It can happen to any of my virtual machines, but it happens to some more than others and I don't know why.

 

I enabled Gather Debugging Information Full and Log Virtual Machine Progress Periodically.  After a hang occurs this is in the log file

NIC physical connection detected but no DHCP

I'll forgive you folks a bit of newbie baiting here because this is a homebrew first effort setup and I'm using unsupported hardware.

 

I have installed ESXi 5.5 but the issue is that I have fallen at the next hurdle because I am unable to achieve network connectivity. In the management console the NIC says that it is connected, but it ends up with a self-assigned IP address. If I manually assign an IP address, I am unable to ping other devices on the network.

 

The system is installed on a Shuttle SZ87R6. I used this guide to get the driver for the Realtek 8111E NIC working - before doing that, the installation would not complete.

The DHCP server is a Netgear CG3700B cable modem/router which has no trouble providing IPs to other devices.

 

What's the next step to figuring out what's wrong?

When Will Fusion "TRULY" Support USB 3.0?

I've been a long time VMware customer, mostly Enterprise products, vSphere, ESXi, etc.  I'm dumbfounded that VMware Fusion does not support USB 3.0 in Windows 7, currently Microsoft's most popular supported operating system.  USB 3.0 is even supported in VMware Workstation 10, not to mention Parallel's 8 and 9.

 

I've recently switched platforms to OS X and all Apple devices since 2012 ship with USB 3.0, so I'm asking, when can we expect Fusion to catch up with the rest of the industry?  I'm starting to feel like VMware treats Fusion like the red headed stepchild.

My domain VM machines can't get to the internet

Hi guys.  I'm running VM Workstation 10.  I have 5 VMs carved out.  3 of them are in their own workgroup using NAT for their netwoking type.  There are no problems with these VMs.

 

The problem arises with two other machines that I put into a Domain.  Both machines are W2K8 R2.  One is a DC running DNS.  The other is a server with no DC/DNS roles.  I can't get to the internet from either of these machines.  When I remove the 2nd machine from the domain, it works fine.  It breaks again when I rejoin the domain.i  If I run an NSlookup, I get DNS Request timed out (2 seconds) with the address of the DNS server (10.10.10.10).  The Network Sharing Center tells me the Access Type is No Internet Access.  DHCP is not enabled.  IPV6 is disabled.

 

Everything else has been working great.  How do I solve this issue?

What to use for AV on WS 10 host

I have a laptop running Win 7 Ultimate.  It's the host machine for Workstation 10.0.2.  There are 7-8 virtual machines running a mixture of Win 2008 R2 and Win 7.

 

I'd like to put either NIS or Malware Bytes on the host.  I'm not concerned about the VMs as this is a dev box and I won't be exposing the guests to the outside world.

 

Does anyone have any thoughts / experience / advise on what to do for AV?  Am I fool-hardy for ignoring the guests?
