Baja tasa de escritura disco virtual

$

Hola,

Disco multiescritura VMware vSphere

Muchas gracias.

Workstation Thumbnail bar - move to bottom of screen?

Is there any way to move the thumbnail bar to the bottom of the screen as opposed to the top?

I run dual monitors with one above the other so my mouse pointer happily moves to the top sceen, trying to pick the single pixel to show the auto hiding thumbnail bar is a real pain!

I know I can turn auto hide off, but I need that feature on, I just want to move the bar to the bottom.

Hi folks,

The much anticipated vSphere 7.0 release is now GA! With it there is a new 7.0 version of the vSphere Client SDK.

Here are some highlights:

  • Plugin Auto-discovery - all new, deleted or changed plugin registrations are immediately detected and trigger deployment/undeployment on the vSphere Client. User is required to only reload the browser to refresh the added/removed extensions.
  • RBAC support for managing plugins.
  • A bunch of new JS APIs mostly supporting handling user settings and different topologies with remote plugins.
  • There are no deprecated or removed APIs.
  • Plugin developer mode for quick remote plugin redeployment during development.

For a full list please check the release notes. Check also the new Hands-on-lab and video to get started with remote plugin development:

As usual, please keep the feedback and questions coming! Thanks you!

Cheers,

Vladi

Is VMFS5 compatible with vSphere 7?

New NSX deployment Sizing and design

$

Hi All,

First, thank you for your time and response.

We are looking to move a medium size VM environment from using DvSwitches to using NSX.

I am looking for some recommendations on sizing and hardware.

We are trying to decide if we can, should or should not deploy a collapsed Management and Edge cluster or if we should deploy a full stack.  If we deploy a full stack, I am looking to see if we have enough hosts.  We currently have 12 ESXi hosts.  If I do a full stack, I am looking at 3 hosts in Management, 2 hosts in Edge and 7 hosts in compute.

Is that correct?  If it is, can I also run any VMs in the Management / Edge cluster?  We host clients and would run all of them in the compute cluster but not sure I have enough resources in the compute cluster to run all my internal servers and I will have extra resources available in the Management and Edge cluster.  So can I run VMs in any cluster or do they all need to be in the compute except for vCenter and NSX manager and controllers etc?

Next question, what are the networking requirements?  Do I need to run 10Gb or can I run multiple 1Gb?  We currently run multiple 1Gb interfaces in Dvswitches.  I see a lot of talk about North / South and East / West traffic.  Currently we already run a zero trust network and all traffic runs North / South to ingress and egress.  I guess we have some East / West traffic between servers on the same VLAN running on different hosts.

Any other comments are helpful.

Thank you again.

Todd

Topic Name : Using the Appliance Management Interface to Configure the vCenter Server Appliance

Publication Name : vCenter Server Appliance Configuration

Product/Version : VMware vSphere/6.5

Question :

When I recompose a pool and let it go with the current time, because the server hosting the environment has a 2 hr offset (I'm MST, Server is EST), instead of proceeding immediately, I end up with a 2 hr wait before the recompose starts.  How do we stop the delay?

How are you continuing to work with your students despite to the various measures that are in place?

The coronavirus is forcing a lot of academic and educational institutions to rethink their strategy on how to give their students access to content, knowledge and practical exercises.

In this topic we would like to ask the 2500+ institutions active in both the VMware IT Academy program and the Academic Software License program to share best practices with each other.

So how is your institutions handling the current situation?

And what challenges do you still face?

Power CLI Script to Adjust vCPU and vMEM of Specific VM's

$

I am using a script I found in this forum to take a .CSV input file of specific VM's with recommendations of the "correct" number of vCPU's and vMEM according to a vRops rightsizing report. The numbers can go up or down depending on the rightsizing so I am trying to feed it a file named vropsreport.csv that has three columns in it with column titles "Name", "vCPU", and "vMEM" (sans quotes)

Here is the script:

function PowerOff-VM{

    param([string] $vm)

    Shutdown-VMGuest -VM (Get-VM $vm) -Confirm:$false | Out-Null

    Write-Host "Shutdown $vm"

    do {

        $status = (get-VM $vm).PowerState

    }until($status -eq "PoweredOff")

    return "OK"

function PowerOn-VM{

    param( [string] $vm)

    if($vm -eq ""){    Write-Host "Please enter a valild VM name"}

    if((Get-VM $vm).powerstate -eq "PoweredOn"){

        Write-Host "$vm is already powered on"}

    else{

        Start-VM -VM (Get-VM $vm) -Confirm:$false | Out-Null

        Write-Host "Starting $vm"

        do {

            $status = (Get-vm $vm | Get-View).Guest.ToolsRunningStatus

        }until($status -eq "guestToolsRunning")

        return "OK"

    }

$VIServer = Connect-VIServer "vcenter"

If ($VIServer.IsConnected -ne $true){

  Write-Host "Error connecting to your vCenter" -ForegroundColor Red

  exit

}

$vms = Import-CSV .\vcopsreport.csv

foreach($vm in Get-VM -Name ($vm | Select -ExpandProperty "Name")){

  if($vm."vMEM" -or $vms."vCPU" -ne "0"){

    $poweroff = PowerOff-VM $vm.Name

    if($poweroff -eq "Ok"){

      Write-Host "PowerOff OK"

      if($vm."vMEM" -ne "0"){

      Set-VM $vm.name -MemoryGB $vm."vMEM" -Confirm:$False

      Write-Host "The new configured amount of memory is"(Get-VM $VM).MemoryGB

      }

     if($vms."vCPU" -ne "0"){

     Set-VM $vm.name -NumCPU $vm."vCPU" -Confirm:$False

     Write-Host "The new configured number of vCPU's is"(Get-VM $VM).NumCPU

      }

      $poweron = PowerOn-VM $vm.Name

      if($poweron -eq "Ok"){

        Write-Host "PowerOn OK"}

    }

  }

Disconnect-VIServer -Confirm:$false

Stepping through the script I can watch it connect to the vCenter, pull in the file and see it delineate the specific name, vCPU, and vMEM settings:

image1.png

However, when it gets down to doing the evaluation of each machine's specific numbers, in the if portion of the script:

if($vms."vMEM" -or $vms."vCPU" -ne "0"){

    $poweroff = PowerOff-VM $vms.Name

    if($poweroff -eq "Ok"){

      Write-Host "PowerOff OK"

      if($vms."vMEM" -ne "0"){

I get this:

image2.png

but I can see the vCPU but that also fails:

image4.png

The script doesnt seem to be parsing out the individual VM entries from the .CSV file and Ive been banging my head against the wall to figure out why.  When the script runs the rest of the way, this is the ultimate error message I get when it tries to apply the changes to the individual VM's:

image3.png

and then this is the error I see in the debug window for the vMEM:

Set-VM : Cannot bind parameter 'MemoryGB' to the target. Exception setting "MemoryGB": "Cannot convert null to type "System.Decimal"."

At C:\Users\daviesri\Desktop\RightSize.ps1:48 char:38

+           Set-VM $vms.name -MemoryGB $vms."vMEM" -Confirm:$False

+                                      ~~~~~~~~~~~

    + CategoryInfo          : WriteError: (:) [Set-VM], ParameterBindingException

    + FullyQualifiedErrorId : ParameterBindingFailed,VMware.VimAutomation.ViCore.Cmdlets.Commands.SetVM

and then this is the error I see when trying to change the CPU:

image5.png

and the associated error in the debugger:

Set-VM : Cannot validate argument on parameter 'NumCpu'. The argument is null, empty, or an element of the argument collection contains a null value.

Supply a collection that does not contain any null values and then try the command again.

At C:\Users\daviesri\Desktop\RightSize.ps1:54 char:34

+         Set-VM $vms.name -NumCPU $vms."vCPU" -Confirm:$False

+                                  ~~~~~~~~~~~

    + CategoryInfo          : InvalidData: (:) [Set-VM], ParameterBindingValidationException

    + FullyQualifiedErrorId : ParameterArgumentValidationError,VMware.VimAutomation.ViCore.Cmdlets.Commands.SetVM

I believe the errors are because the numbers arent being passed but I cant figure out why and Im sure it is something simple I am missing.

I would greatly appreciate some assistance from some PowerCLI Masters please on what I am doing wrong.

I am running Windows 10 using PowerShell as admin with the PowerCLI add-on for PowerShell.

If there is any more info you need me to provide, please let me know and Ill respond as soon as I can. I am not a scriptwriter normally but am trying to automate some things in our lab to "fix" vCPU and vMEM overuse.

Thanks,

Issues accessing Fonts - Adobe Creative Cloud

$

Hi everybody,

I'm trying to find if anybody else has experienced this issue and what can be done to fix it. We're using VMWare Horizon 7 and Appvol 2.16 and we use non-persistent VM's and floating user profiles. I've downloaded an Adobe Acrobat DC package which has end-user updating prohibited, and I've used the Adobe Acrobat DC package customization wizard to turn off a couple features that shouldn't have anything to do with syncing fonts. After I've packaged the app and load it for testing on a VM, I cannot get Adobe Creative Cloud to load the fonts options when I click on the icon; I just keep getting a spinning circle. I've gone through various installs and tweaks to the customization of the package, but cannot get that part to work.

Any Ideas?

Thanks,

Matt

Getting errors "com.gemstone.gemfire.cache.client.AllConnectionsInUseException"

Hi Folks,

I am getting following error whenever I am starting tomcat server from cluster 5 servers including  3 tomcat server and 2 locator servers.

The tomcat servers starts clean but after 15 or 20 mins it start throwing the below errors on tomcat client logs:-

CISCO AnyConnect / VMWare NAT / DNS problem in guest when host is connected to VPN

$

Configuration

VMWare Workstation 15.5.2

Windows 10 Host [1909]

CISCO AnyConnect 4.7.00136

- IP4 ... Split Include

- IP6 ... Bypass All Traffic

Windows 10 [1909] Guest with vmnet8 / NAT (static 192 address assigned)

Problem

When the host is connected to the VPN, DNS resolution in the guest does not work.

Need to understand if/how vmnet8 can be made to work with the DNS assigned by the host VPN automatically.

Understood there are workarounds, like configuring a public DNS on the vmnet8 adapter; this is not desirable.

Bridged networking is also not desirable; company network only allows one MAC per physical port when on site.

When will we get support for 4Kn / 4096 byte sector FC storage targets?

$

4K device targets have been shipping for years, and it's increasing impact to not have support.  There is still only support for locally attached 4Kn SAS/SATA spinning disks.  When will we get support for 4K / 4Kn targets over other interfaces?  eg FC, iSCSI, NVMeOF, iSER, etc?

ref: vSphere 7.0 Storage Guide still shows the same limitations that we had around ~6.4 IIRC...

When you use 4Kn devices, the following considerations apply:

  • ESXi supports only local 4Kn SAS and SATA HDDs
  • ESXi does not support 4Kn SSD and NVMe devices, or 4Kn devices as RDMs

Skyline advisor not collecting logs, and issue with VC_Events endpoint

$

0

Last week we upgraded our vCenter appliance from 6.5 to 6.7U3b

Upon checking the Skyline appliance, the Skyline collector was no longer working.

I removed the vCenter server from Skyline, and re-added it again.

I needed to update the vsphere.local\skyline account password, as well as the admin and root passwords of the skyline appliance.

There are a couple of issues regarding functionality of Skyline:

  1. Endpoint VC_EVENTS reports: “This endpoint has been disabled by VMware”. Is this normal? Any information I find regarding this appears to have been resolved in an earlier version of Skyline.
  2. The Skyline Advisor reports that our environment is “Healthy”. The inventory of VSphere objects is listed in the Skyline Advisor. However, Log Assist reports: “The necessary privileges required for Log Assist to work are not granted to the Skyline service account. Please revalidate after making necessary changes. I verified that the skyline collector read-only role that was created when skyline was first deployed, and assigned to the vsphere.local\skyline account, is correct as per https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/59661. So I revalidated, but still have the same issue that logs cannot be collected.

This morning, I upgraded the Skyline Appliance from 2.2.0.0 Build 14617436 to 2.3.0.2 Build 15347811, hoping this would resolve these issues, but it didn't.

I am not sure how to resolve this issue, and would appreciate assistance. Thanks.
