Bridged network does not work - Cannot change network to bridged: There are no un-bridged host network adapters - workstation pro 15.5.6

Hi,

My windows 10 pro has been updated to the 2004 version. After opening the workstation pro, I did the automatic update to version 15.5.6.

After all, the bridge network was no longer available. In device management, the network drivers (VMnet0,1 and 8) have an exclamation sign. I tried to update but to no avail.

In the Virtual Network Editor, when I try to change VMnet0 to Bridged, I received the message:

Cannot change network to bridged: There are no un-bridged host network adapters.

I uninstalled VMware workstation pro 15.6, reinstalled versions 15.5.1, 15.5.2, and 15.5.5, but in all cases, the bridge network does not work.

I have several VMs, but all using the NAT network. Today I went to create a VM with a bridged network and saw that it was not connecting.

Please explain me about VMware vSphere 7 Essentials Kit licensing

Hi,

I just bought VMware vSphere 7 Essentials Kit :

VMware vSphere 7 Essentials Kit for 3 hosts (Max 2 processors per host)(VS7-ESSL-KIT-C)

Subscription only for VMware vSphere 7 Essentials Kit for 3 years(VS7-ESSL-3SUB-C)

but on my.wmware.com lin licencing section I see this:

vSphere 7 Essentials      1                         6 CPU(s)

So with this licence I can install six Esxi host (with one CPU each), or max ESXi host number is three no matter how many CPU it have?

thank you.

I have a partition that has already been formatted using Vmware 7.0 and I would like to "mount" it as a datastore

The gui (web) say to "select" a partition on the left side, but cannot seem to be able to do it

Is it a bug or a feature ?

Jabra Heads and other USB Audio Devices in Horizon Best Practice

$

So we are doing more and more virtual meetings and we needed to improve our audio quality when people join meetings with Teams, Skype, Zoom and anything else. We found that the Hardware Audio Canceling just doesn't work when connected to our Horizon VDI Clients. Echo is awful. When the you connect to these meetings from the physical computer\thin client, they sound fine using the built in speaker and Mic. So as a work around we started handing out Jabra Engage 65 headsets to combat the Audio feedback.

My question to the community is how are you deploying the software that goes with these headset. For instance Jabra Express in this case. I was installing them on the Thin Client (TC), but then the software doesn't recognize that Teams and other meeting software are installed. I tried Installing the software on the Thin Client but that requires USB redirection in the Horizon Client to work. The headset is found but sometimes the Headset isn't discovered by windows and the meeting software as an audio device. Though Jabra Express sees the headset and can apply firmware updates and configuration changes.

The other issue we run into is that we want day to day computer notifications to go through the PC speakers but communication software apps to go through the headset. I am finding it's usually one or the other and has to be defaulted on the TC side. The promise of VDI simplifying our environment is falling flat new with the requirement of enhanced Audio and Video capabilities. Are others having this issue too? What is the best configuration for this new modern remote workforce and conferencing tools?

PowerCLI Script to get ESXi Network/Storage Firmware and Driver Version

Hi Admin,

Found this script which gets me firmware and driver info.

-------

$vmhosts = Get-Cluster "clust01" | get-vmHost

$report = @()

foreach( $ESXHost in $vmhosts) {

$HWModel = get-vmHost $ESXHost | Select Name, Model

$esxcli = Get-ESXcli -vmhost $ESXHost

if($HWModel.Model -eq "ProLiant BL460c Gen9")

{

$info = $esxcli.network.nic.get("vmnic0").DriverInfo | select Driver, FirmwareVersion, Version

$ModuleName = "$($info.Driver)"

$Firmware = "$($info.FirmwareVersion)"

$Driver = "$($info.Version)"

$elxnet = $esxcli.software.vib.list() | where { $_.name -eq "elxnet"}

$report += $info | select @{N="Hostname"; E={$ESXHost}},@{N="Hardware-Model"; E={$HWModel.Model}},@{N="Adapter-Firmware"; E={$Firmware}}, @{N="Network-Driver"; E={$Driver}}, @{N="FC-Driver"; E={$elxnet.version.substring(0,14)}}

}

}

$report | out-gridview

-------

Above works fine for my blade servers with CNAs.

But on some om my VMhost I have separate FC HBAs , and to get the driver info I use something like this :
$esxcli.system.module.get("lpfc") | Select-object @{N="VMHostName";E={$VMHostName}}, Module, Version

Possible to combine this line with my script someway?

Thanks

Johan

W10 GP Update

$

Requirement is like we have the VMware VDI Machine  ( W10 ) and they are currently running on 1809

1) Last Windows update was on June-14-2019

2) W10 OS Build

If we directly initiate the Windows update, then system will directly update to 1903 or latest, Which we don't want to do

So my question is if we install the SCCM agent on one machine and can we push only the selected updates without upgrading the W10 version  and later if we remove SCCM agent and convert that to a Gold Image ( then I can use this updated GP for further provisioning VMs )

After the W10 update, If I remove the SCCM agent does this create any registry edits / issues for the Golden Image all VDI are non-persistent.

Log Insight Forwarded Events

Pretty sure that in 8.1.1 it is still only possible to connect one Log Insight instance into vROPS - is that correct?

In the event that I want I'm monitoring multiple vCenters with one vRops and say two Log Insight instances - is the correct procedure to forward event from one log insight to the other and pair that one with vROPS? Is there any issues with those forwarded logs appearing in vROPS then?

Thanks,

Saml SSO import automation or scripting

Does anyone here know if there is anyway to automate the importing of a SAML service providers cert for SSO? I've been looking through the powercli and searching on line, but have been coming up empty. I'm open to any ideas anyone might have. I could use a rest api call if it's available or a powercli script or a python script or even if I could log into the shell and run a script. Any ideas at all would be a big help.

Cannot add vCenter Server to Skyline 2.5.0 - Couldn't login the client. -> General failure. -> Unexpected status code: 503

Hi All,

I'm trying to add a new vCenter to Skyline, but am receiving the following error.

skyline_error.png

Both Skyline (2.5.0) and vCenter (6.7.0.44000 Build 16046470) are brand new, fresh deployments.

I've tried rebooting both and using different vCenter user accounts, but it all results in the same error. I can login to vCenter manually without any issue at all.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

vCSA 6.7 Active Directory Authentication

$

Hello,

I am trying to secure our network bit by bit and am currently trying working on making Active Directory authentication more secure. We've been receiving a lot of events on our domain controllers about clients authenticating using insecure means:

Event 2887, ActiveDirectory_DomainService:

During the previous 24 hour period, some clients attempted to perform LDAP binds that were either: (1) A SASL (Negotiate, Kerberos, NTLM, or Digest) LDAP bind that did not request signing (integrity validation), or (2) A LDAP simple bind that was performed on a cleartext (non-SSL/TLS-encrypted) connection This directory server is not currently configured to reject such binds. The security of this directory server can be significantly enhanced by configuring the server to reject such binds. For more details and information on how to make this configuration change to the server, please see http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=87923.

I did some research and was able to discover that our vCSA is one of those clients:

Event 2889, ActiveDirectory_DomainService:

The following client performed a SASL (Negotiate/Kerberos/NTLM/Digest) LDAP bind without requesting signing (integrity verification), or performed a simple bind over a clear text (non-SSL/TLS-encrypted) LDAP connection.

Client IP address:

x.x.x.x

Identity the client attempted to authenticate as:

(vCSA Computer Account)

Binding Type:

0

I've done some research and have not been able to find a way to reconfigure our vCSA to use a more secure method. Some of the other devices we have reconfigured were able to use SSL and port 636 for this, but I cannot find these settings anywhere on the vCSA or in vSphere.

The identity source is currently set up as "Active Directory (Integrated Windows Authentication)". Do I need to change this to "Active Directory as an LDAP server" or something else?

Thanks!

I have VMWorkstation 15.x    I have setup 3 servers, A, B, C.   Server A is my AD server, it has AD, DHCP, DNS etc...  Servers B,C when I log in they get authenticated by server A.    But only server A can access the Internet.

Under Virtual Network Editor I have followed some Youtube videos.  I have setup the following.

VMNet18 Bridged:  Wireless AC 9260 160MHz

VMNet19 Bridged:  Ethernet Connection

Server A has two network adaptors.  both 18 and 19.

both servers B,C have one network adaptors.  VMNet 19.

Why would serves B,C not be able to get on the internet?

i have a problem , in vcloud director i create vapp templates , and the vms that i create from the template have the same uuid that the original vm.

Many people will use those templates so, the option of change via script every new vm is a problem.

i don't think the i am the only one with this problem.

any clue/hint is greatly apreciated!

Prevent NFS connections on boot ?

Hey we've got a host that is still trying to connect to NFS shares for a device that has been long since removed from the environment.  It isn't really a problem, but it causes the host to take a long time to boot.  Anyone know how I can prevent the host from doing this?  Everything I've found online seems to refer to using commands like "esxcli storage nfs list" and "esxcfg-nas -l" to first identify the NFS shares you want to remove.  Because the connection was never successful though, it comes up empty.  host still tries to connect on restart though.

Here is where the host is hanging on boot for a long time.  I was able to identify this console output by using the ALT+F12 trick.

168: NFS mount <IP Address>:/vol/nfsshare failed: Unable to connect to NFS server

3341: Synchronous RPC abort for client 0xblahblah IP <NFS IP Address>

Cannot Start EPD

$

We had a host in a 3-node vSAN cluster (VC is 7.0.0d and all hosts are at 7.0b) that quit responding (while the VMs continued to run). After some troubleshooting, we got it back up, but I moved off the VMs and rebooted it just for good measure. After a reboot, the host came back up, but now vSAN is having issues...

Specifically, vSAN Health is reporting that "EPD Status" under vSAN Daemon Liveness is "Abnormal". Everything else is reporting as "Healthy".

When SSHed into the host, I get the following:

Running /etc/init.d/epd status gives a response of:

epd is not running

CLOMD is running, however.

If I try starting epd using /etc/init.d/epd start, I get:

INIT: EPD uses a ramdisk for the db file

INIT: No persistent storage found to backup the DB into.

Thinking one of my disks might be full, I tried checking the disk space. Very oddly, running df -h (or, really, any variant of the df command) gives:

VmFileSystem: Slow refresh failed: Cannot open volume: /vmfs/volumes/5efa1a50-890ef4b7-dce3-001b21baacac

Error when running esxcli, return status was: 1

Errors:

Error getting data for filesystem on '/vmfs/volumes/5efa1a50-890ef4b7-dce3-001b21baacac': Cannot open volume: /vmfs/volumes/5efa1a50-890ef4b7-dce3-001b21baacac, skipping.

I never actually get to see the free space of the physical disks.

Running vdf -h gives a very long output (attached), but I notice no scratch partition.

Any thoughts? Is epd as a separate service a new thing with vSphere 7? If so, that's likely why I cannot find a ton of troubleshooting information via Google.
